Need some expert advice from fellow owners. I've owned my 95 Rangie SWB for almost two years. I've put around 30K miles on her, and just rolled 100K a few weeks ago. I do minimal maintenance, i.e. oil changes & tire rotations. Went out for work yesterday morning and she wouldn't start. When I unlocked the door, I noticed the other doors didn't open w/ the power locks. Tried to crank her and got nothing!!! No clicking, nothing, she was completely dead. Neighbor came and gave me a jump, after a few attempts she finally started, but as soon as I unhooked the cables, she'd die. Ran to the local auto store and bought a new battery. Once installed the battery, I was back in business. Well this morning, same old thing!!!! Drivers side door unlocked, but power locks didn't unlock the rest of the car. Neighbor came back over and jumped me. She cranked and is now running idle. Any recommendations??? Alternator???? |

I'm no expert but I think something is draining your battery....probably your alarm or something... don't go changing parts before your figure out what the problem is....your old battery is still good (probably). Re-charge the old battery and have it handy so your neighbor doesn't have to keep jumping you (unless of course she's hot ...

Sounds similar to my alternator as it was starting to fail. Has your tach been acting up (works sometimes, then doesn't others)? When it finally failed, the fully charged battery lasted probably about 10 miles of driving before it left me stranded. |

sticky fuel pump relay, same thing happened to me until I swapped them. replace 'em both, they're the silver/red stripe ones under the pass. seat. |

take a volt meter, place + to + and - to - on the battery getting 12 to 13 volts ? if not your alt is not charging your battery..then you have either a loose belt or bad alt.tighten those belts also .often overlooked..marc@singingcamel |
