I thought it was just my radio that was dead (it won't turn on at all, but the screen will flash very briefly if I try to turn it on after the truck has been off for awhile), but my dome lights no longer work, my clock resets itself (almost) everytime I start the truck and the ignition indicator light (where the key goes) has a mind of its own as to when it will shut off. All of the fuses look ok. All other electrical functions appear to be working properly (e.g., A/C, lights, alarm, door locks, gauges, cig lighter). Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

You've got problems....I wonder if there is a common ground for all these items |

Start checking grounds, particularly the one nearest the battery. |

Could it be the multi function unit (MFU)? I have tried to check some of the grounds, but it is like looking for spagettini in a spaghetti bowl. A post from last year revealed a guy by the name of Joe that had the exact same problem, but there was no follow up to say what the resolution was. One further observation...it seems when I switch the dome light from the door activated mode to the "On" mode, it shuts of the clock. Switching it back turns it back on (and of course resets it). |

Look behind the kick panel on the LH side, My rave disc shows that to be a common ground point for interior lights and the radio. It is refered to as E201 in the manual and it looks to be the bottom connector C2029. Mike G. 96 Disco SD |

I'll get this right sooner or later, here is a scan from the manual that shows the spot I mentioned in my earlier post.

Turns out is was a fuse after all. Unbelievable! It was a fuse for my rear a/c which seemed to be working fine. I don't even pretend to understand why a fuse for rear a/c kills my radio and dome lights, then turns the dome light switch into an on/off button for my clock, or the ignition turns the clock into a trip timer (resets everytime the truck is turned off). Thanks to everyone for your help! |

Todd, Joe here. My problem was ultimately a bad regulator (built-in to the alternator). Glad you found yours so easily. Joe |

Welcome to the WONDERFUL WORLD OF LUCAS!!!!! Last time my radio and dome light stopped working I found some random blown fuse. I to wonder how that could happen. I've now learned to check every single fuse for any sort of electrical issue. I would like to talk to the guy who put the electrical system together on these to find out what the hell he was thinking. Was he drunk or somethin? |

No kidding...thanks to Dweb though, I was able to track it down. Another member had a similar problem a year ago, but there was no resolution to his problem on the site. A quick email to him and I had the problem solved the same day. I certainly would like to meet the electrical engineer (no offense to others real EEs out there - I am using the term VERY loosely here!). There is absolutely nothing intuitive about the link between an apparently functioning rear a/c with a blown fuse and the ability to turn off my clock by turning on the dome light!! After much cursing and swearing, I must say I was on the floor laughing when I finally solved the problem. ...now to tackle wiring my new power seats! Wish me luck!! |

BOYCOTT LUCAS!!! The only problems I've ever had are electrical. At least D2s are Bosch now! |
