Before I begin to remove the cover from the cargo door I was wondering if anyone has had the same thing happen: The latch works-but only with the key inserted and turned completely to the open position, otherwise the latch does not catch. Is the latch broken or is there an easy (cheap) fix? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I'm having the same exact problem on my '97. I just took out the door locking solenoid, and although it moves when you lock/unlock the truck with the remote, the solenoid arm is loose and won't stay in position. If the door locking mechanism is relying upon the solenoid to hold everything in position, then the solenoid must be bad. Anyone know for sure???

some times the latch sticks on mine, I have to pry it back to the proper posiot with a screw driver, then re attempt, regular oiling with WD 40 seems to have stopped this. Is this what you have going on?

I took the badge off and oiled the spring and metal joints. They have a tendency to stick. So once I oiled the springs, I continued to squeeze and release the handle trigger untill the oil worked its way into the springs.. Haven't had a problem since

I had the same problem for a while with the latch sticking-I put WD40 on it as well and it cleared it up . . .for a while. Now it moves freely but doesn't engage the lock unless the key is inserted and turned fully in the open position. The new latch costs around $130 . . .trying to avoid buying one and also would like to avoid opening up the cargo door cover if I can avoid it. David-any luck with yours? I'm going to look into it tonight.

No luck with mine. I looked over all the internals to the lock mechanism inside the door and I can't see anything that seems out of order. The problem seems to be that the door lock is too loose and will not stay unlocked on its own. You can open the rear door if you use the key and hold it in the unlock position while operating the latch. If you look at the rear door lock button while operating the remote lock/unlock, you can see the button bouncing up and down instead of staying up or staying down like it should. It seems to me that the power lock actuator must be at fault. Can anybody confirm this?

That's exactly what mine is doing. Not too good with locks, though but I'm going to read up on it and possibly remove the panel sometime this week and have a look. I'll let you know what I find and if anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I am having the same problem with the rear door and my front passenger door. I've talk to the dealer and they told me that it was the actuator, although I don't really trust my dealership that much. I have check the front door over and over and cannot find anything wrong with the system besides the actuator being a little weak. I am getting a new one and I will also check it with the rear door to see if a new actuator fixes the problem.

Haven't got around to checking the lock yet . . I'd be curious to see if the actuator works Tony. Please let us know. Maybe this is a conspiracy . . .

I have found door locks to be very susceptible to corrosion and wear. So far, every problem I've run into has been due to one of these two issues.

Tear the latching mechanisms and actuating arms apart, clean them up, lube them up, reassemble and adjust. This seems ot fix almost all fo the latch problems that have not yet resulted in broken parts. Once they start breaking parts, you're screwed as most of them are only available in complete assemblies ($$$), and the boneyards seem to havefound out why I was buying door latch parts and have increased pricing accordingly.

My actuator is still working it just seems to be a littel weak, I am still waiting for my new one to arrive in the meantime I did read this on the manual and will test it out this weakend:
* Adjustemt:
Front door Lock
The length of the exterior handle-to-lock link rod can be adjusted by screwing/unscrewing it for the lock assembly. The length of the lock assembly interior handle link rod can be altered by rotating the spring-tensioned nyloc nut which is situated at the lock end of the rod.

* Rear door Lock
The length of the exterior handle-to-lock link rod can be adjusted by screwing/unscrewing it front the lock assembly.

The lock assembly is the part that catches the cylinder latch located on the middle end of the door NOT the lock cylinder where the key goes.

I will basically pull the lock assembly out and check it out, hopefully this will fix it so I won't need a new actuator after all.
