My red battery light stays on after I have turned of my engine. I have had to disconnect my battery to get it to go out. I noticed the battery light had a very low glow this morning on my way to work and by the time I arrived it seemed to have no glow at all. After work I had a slow drive home 60 kilometres ph because my engine (3.5 v8) would not run at speed. If I got a little speed up the engine would lose power in a jerking fashion and then run smooth and then lose power again. I arrived home turned of the key and the red light she came on and she stays on. Can you help me pinpoint the problem? The engine normally runs smooth, I feal that this is an electrical problem and one that could stop my Dico in its tracks. Thankyou Noel |

Discount rovers sell them for around $65. On my 97 it fixed the ocassional loss of power. I never had the red light come on with this problem. |

Just had the RAC call out to take a look The engine now starts ok and idles ok. Red light goes off when engine is running, and comes back on when I shut down the engine.(Still disconnect my battery to get it to go out) The RAC did a test on the Alternator and say its not charging. So from here its a trip to the Auto Electrician. Funny thing is I'v just had $321 of work done on the Alternator. Thankyou for your impute I'll keep you up to date. Noel |

Well. Well...the auto electic shop I buy my alternators/starters from told me the Lucas alternators are not the latest design and the main problem is that the diodes are undersized. Typical British electric design uses the smallest possible wire size. Still prefer steam engines. |
