Last week the ABS, Traction Control and Hill Descent pilots of my DII went on, I took the truck to the dealer and they told my that one of the sensors was damaged and that they had to replace it : $600 + $100 labor.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem without spending that much money?

thanks in advance for your help!
MA

Have them reset the lights without replacing the sensors.....much cheaper and just as effective. Then wait to join class action lawsuit of all those people the dealers have been ripping off to replace sensors that are just loose or just basically didn't need replacement anyway....what a scam

Just had our sensor replaced after the same 3 lights went on. Someone suggested it was a brake computer recall, but that wasn't our case.

Luckily it was covered under warranty! (sorry - can't actually offer any help in this case since it was warranty work!)

Mine was warranty also...but then weeks later and just OUT of warranty the same thing happened...which LR refused to fix....I think it's an open service ticket...but they dont. Sales prevention dept. strikes again...

That's happen to me many times. ...I've never had to pay due to warranty, but I did notice that my anti-lock brakes and ECT still worked with the lights ON. ...I think the reset is a good idea.

OK, now things get interesting...

The same lights just went on again after being repaired just last week(I think we've been in there 3 times already for the lights). Called the dealer and they said they just received a bulletin that there is a known issue with the sensor setup. Not quite sure of the details, but they said the solution they are going to try is replacing all pads and rotors. At the worst we'll have to pay for new pads(I don't plan to pay for new pads since they are only 2 months old). He asked what pads I had put on and I had tried the Mintex. His response was that aftermarket pads make the "sensor issue" even worse. All this after they replaced the rotors after I had put in new pads, which then started a HORRIBLE squealing and dash lights going on.

Well see what the outcome is next week when we have an appointment. Hopefully this time our loaner Freelander doesn't leave us stranded again!

Oh this just gets better....I'm from the UK originally...Mintex is an OEM supplier to Land Rover and their pads are excellent quality, so don't be falling for that line of BS Jason....how many miles ??? And they want to do rotors already....yeah right!!!!!!!!!

I would REALLY like to hear how the pads and rotors cause the ABS system to store a fault. See if the dealer can enlighten you on this. In a nutshell, All the ABS system does at the wheels is look for a wave pattern from the sensor which is placed inside the hub. If it looses this pattern it assumes the wheel is locked up and starts ABS activation.

We take the Disco in on Wednesday, so I'll find out what the deal is then. As long as they replace everything free of charge I'll be happy with that. I'm not happy with the excuses we've been getting - all sorts of brake issues. At least it stops fine.

The Mintex pads had about 500 miles on them when we had to have the rotors replaced for our yearly inspection. I knew we shouldn't have taken it to the dealer for inspection, but we had a free 30k service. The rear rotors were then replaced and the squealing started. They tried to pass that off as the oil on the rotors(to keep them from rusting on the shelf!). We took it back to have them fix the problem, but they blamed it on the aftermarket pads. I bet they didn't put any of the antisqueal shims back on the rear pads!

This should be fun on Wednesday....
Jason.

Peter, in PA, we have to replace rotors ridiculously quickly... every 20-30k miles. It's inspection laws. If you don't have state inspection, your rotors stay safely on for many more miles.
