I live in Portugal and I own a RR 300TDI from 1994 I bought new. Recently, I find the car with too low power. It hardly overpasses the 3.000 rpm and doesnt go more than 75 mph, when it used to go easily till 90 mph. When trying to go over 3.000 rpm it seems some vibration comes out of the engine case and doesnt go more as if stalls there.
Neither in 2cond, neither in 3rtd or 4thrd gear can I go much more than the 3000 rpm, when before it would go easily up till 4.000 rpm.
What can be the cause of this suddenly loss of power?
A bad or leaky vacuum pump? A bad EGR control unit? Can it be tested?
A bad EGR solenoid valve?
A faulty ECM central?
Does this model has a ECM central? how can I find?
A leaky tube between the Turbo and the fuel pump?
Any other possible unit fault?
What is the most common fault that causes such a power loss?
The car just came from the 60.000 miles inspection, done at a RR representant, and I have starting using the new BP super-diesel that supposedly is much better than the usual ones. Can it be the main fault?

try your air, and fuel filters first, sounds like lack of one or the other. I would try the simple things before I get too complicated.

Can a bad installed timming belt, or fault injectors cause this lack of power?
How do I know if my 1994 RR has an ECM? if it doen't what does it have?

yes, yes, I think you need to track down a manual on this one since most of us are in the states and have little experience with this 300tdi application.

I have a 300 tdi disco. I would certainly start with a NEW air filter. Then remove diesel filter. Drain it and fill with a good injector cleaner additive. Replace and start engine. Dont rev too hard to start with. Slowly work the throttle opening and closing the fuel pump. After about 20 mins. I would then go for an easy drive at say 25-30 mph. After a couple of miles, stop and hold the throttle wide open for the govenor to kick in. Hold for a few seconds the do it again. Repeat several times. If at any time your engine makes any strange noises stop. This should not only clean your pump out but also your injectors. How many miles since your last injector change? I have known injectors to last more than 120k miles before, and some to only go 70k.Dont be too scared to thrash your engine when its warm. Diesels are prone to clogging up at the pump and injectors.
Check your turbo pipes for air leaks. Does your turbo work? Can you hear the little whistle when your revs climb?
As for electrics etc... Thats beyond me, sorry.
As for type of fuel... i put what ever is cheapest in mine.... seems ok.
