I was driving around town Friday night and looked over at my temp and saw that it was higher than usual. It was almost stop and go traffic and I noticed that the temp would only go up when I accelerated it would come back down but not to its original position. Anyone else had this problem before, should I be looking at the Viscous coupling or the thermostat? Coolant level is normal |

Ok, I use to hear a click by the dashboard, probably in the fuse box when the car had the AC on and it was running hot, this click is now gone and my car is overheating, can anyone tell me what this click was, was it the fans for the AC? |

Do the power fans for infront of the radiator come on when the A/C compressor comes on? If they have stopped for some reason it will run warmer than normal. Does the temp act ok when you drive w/o the A/C on....try that and see what it does. |

Turn the AC on and go peer through the front grill and see if the fans are turning. If not, check fuses and relays first, thermal switch second, fans third, etc, et infinitum, ad nauseum . . . -Jim |

Actually that was the first thing I did that Friday, I had the AC on and saw the temp go up, I then turned the AC off but the temperature would still peak up when I accelerated. I don't know if the fans are working, I will check to see if they are. Would the fans work when the AC is on or only when the compressor kicks in? |

Fans will come on when AC is switched on. There's also a thermal switch that will turn the fans on when the engine starts to get too hot, regardless if the AC is on or not, and will stay on for about 5 minutes after you shut the vehicle off (or until it is sufficiently cool). Alot of posts on this board tend to lean toward flushing/rodding/coring or replacing the radiator if it turns out not to be the fans. But, before dropping that kind of money you should rule out your thermostat and ensure that your gauge or sender is not malfunctioning (apparently not uncommon with these vehicles). Good luck. Should both fans be working together? I checked my ride yesterday and found only one fan working with the AC on. If both should be working than I guess I have a bad fan or connection. Has anyone worked on these before? Any tips? |

Yes, the fans should work together. A test light works nice (rather than a volt meter). Put the alligator clip on ground and stab the wires on the dead fan, a good long test light will let you work through the grill w/o having to take it out. If you get a light then the wires are good, the fan is bad. If the light doesn't light then you're going to have to start hunting. If one fan is on though, I'd say you have a dead fan. JH |

Thanks for you imput Jim, I will test this weekend either with a volt meter or a hand made light test like you describe. I do have my suspicions with the fan since the other one works just fine, but then again LR electronics are not the best so here I go again back to my garage to tear the thing down. |

You know one of my fans doesnt work now that I think about it. May not need a radiator as mine only gets hot at idle or in traffic. Where can I get one and how much will they run? |

I'm on the same page as all of you. I just drove in slow traffic and the temp gauge went up. I noticed that when I got home, the fans were not on when I parked. This leads me to assume there not working. So, what direction should I go to look into this? Let's just say there both not working? Thanks. |

I tried to take the grill off this weekend and found that it was going to take more time than I had. I ordered a fan through a Land Rover Wreck for $75.00 When I get it I'll set up some time aside to take the grill off and test the old fan or replace it. Today though the high temp rouptured the Coolant expansion tank!!!! One thing after another if I didn't like this car so much I would........ |
