Have to ask... How does the 2003 measure up to the older models? Land Rover claims to have many improvements on a number of items. Is there a big difference? Just wondering if Land Rover shops will less of the 2003 models.

Have to admit, I love the looks and when it's time to trade my 98' Disco, I would want to shoot for the 2003 model (of course, that's a few years away).

I HAVE TO ADMIT, THE NEW 2003 IS A VAST IMPROVEMENT ON THE OLD DII. THE SUSPENSION IS BETTER, THE MOTOR HAS MORE POWER, THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS IMPROVED. IT MAKES A 99 DII FEEL SLOW AND LIKE YOU HAVE TO PUMP THE BRAKES TO STOP.

There is no CDL on the '03 Disco and you cannot add it without replacing about $5k worth of stuff (new dealer prices). The '04's will have CDL (at least as an option). I don't know what other changes there will be... Beyond that the '03 is a great truck.

THE CAPLIERS AND BRAKE BOOSTER ARE NEW AND IMPROVED ON THE 2003. THE PEDAL FEELS MUCH BETTER LIKE YOU'VE INSTALLED BRADED BRAKE LINES.

I'm new to the world of Rovers, but I absolutely love my '03 to death. At just under 8,000 miles, there are no oil leaks to be found. I had one warranty repair for a cracked side mirror. That's it.

Relatively competent off-road in stock form, though I long for the CDL.

Before the Disco, I had a tendency to change vehicles every couple of years. This is the first vehicle that I plan to keep until it dies. I can't even count the number of nights I've spent in the driveway studying the underbody and all the mechanicals. My kids will be learning to drive in this thing.

If anyone could read my post on non-tech. about Delphi, any information pertaining to 2003 Discovery would be appreciated.

Alan/Chris,

Apparently no one at my dealership saw fit to mention that there is a Rover wallet redirection field. Money that was once targeted for groceries and computer upgrades have been redesignated for Rover add-ons. Heck, my diff guards should be arriving any minute now! :-)

My Dll was stock about 9 months ago. I need to update my profile. No leaks at 40 k miles. BTW, my buddy selling the Dll transfer cases says they will fit an '03. I don't know if he is FOS or not. See my post in the For Sale section. I recently drove a '03 for a couple of days. The power is very nice. I will probably be looking a used '04 in a few years from now.

Eugene: 9400 miles on my 2003 and I just starting noticing small pools of oil on my garage floor. So you have at least 1400 drip-free miles left ;)

Lucky for me it was a bum oil filter, nothing more :D

I love my '03. I'd like for it to have CDL, but in practice I haven't actually needed CDL on the trails I run... So I'm not going to lose sleep if the '04s have it. I did replace the stock Michelin XPC's with some BFG AT's (245/75) which made a huge difference in offroad performance, and shockingly enough, really improved onroad ride, handling, and grip, too.

Erik: one thing that hasn't been mentioned is the handling... The 2003 non-ACE model is so much better than the prior models on the road I can't believe it. The 4.6 is a great match for the better handling suspension, and as mentioned it has pretty darn good brakes, too. Unless you're looking to build it up as a vehicle solely for trails (and honestly then I'd just buy a Jeep Rubicon if you wanted a new vehicle..) buy a 2003 and enjoy. It's still plenty competent offroad.
