My mirror slipped down in my 99 d1 about a half an inch and is now very wobbly. I can't seem to find any sort of screw or place to adjust and tighten. This has become very #%$&*ing irritating.

Any help is very much appreciated.

just jam the thing back up towards the headliner

it should slide up another inch or two and get snug

When it gets hot in indy, my mirror will droop down, i just put it back up. But then again I have the shitty mirror that the 94 and 95s had.

Hey, just don't get any mirror adhesive on your dash if you decide to reattach it. It eats through the dash like nobody's business!

I'm not sure about the 99's but my 94 uses an adhesive pad ($8 at the dealer). It's a peel-and-stick thing. I tried the 'super mirror adhesives' they sell at Checker but it didn't work.
Buy the pad, yank your mirror off, clean the surfaces, apply pad to mirror, apply mirror to glass, hold for 30 seconds (or a minute).
Very easy.

Thanks Everyone. I actually just jammed it straight up and it locked itself back in place (for now at least). I have the mirror with all the electronics in it (auto dim, map lights, etc.) so I'm not sure about the adhesive.

Thanks Again

Got a question about the auto-dim mirrors that you mention. Mine got a leak in the sealed area where the electrochromatic goo is at and got all cloudy and funky. I want to replace it but can't figure out how to get the thing off. Do you slide it down until it comes off? It seems on there pretty good and I don't want to break anything. Suggestions??

I just bought a big long mirror that clips on the front of the broken mirror. Now I have a nice big mirror that shows me all around, and I don't have to deal with the cloudy factory mirror.

my mirror on my 96 has the fluid about 2/3 full in front of the mirror so i get this line of tinted and standard mirror. does that mean it's toast?

Mines all cloudy and funky too. And the auto dim feature doesn't work. Anybody know where to get a replacement, other than the dealer?

I know where to find a replacement:

http://www.mitocorp.com/nvsmirro.htm

These guys actually manufacture the mirrors that LR sells. The exact product that is in all US vehicles (ford, Chevy). Only $99 rather than $280. Only problem is that LR manufactured a custom mounting base that can only be bought through LR. The wiring is differet also but could probably be easily re-rigged (this will void the warranty on the mirror however but it will save a lot of time).

Actually corey is 100% wrong

donelly is who maked the Land Rover mirrors ( as well as most amaerican cars)

If you call donelly directly, they will prbably replace your mirror for free, and take the old one back.

I went through this last year, and thought it took a few phone calls to keep on them, eventually a brand new mirror was sent to me, the same mounting, same wireing as what came in my 97 and same mirror.

I try to avoid every situation to "re-rigg" something with:
A. electrics
B. was made by Landrover

Of course, if you want to just replace it with a mirror that doesnt self dim, find a used on eoff a RRC for 10 bucks from the bone yard ( or do allyssas trick)

I actually just received my free miror from Magna Donnelly. No charge- all you do is send the old one back. I was surprised at how quickly they got back to me-1 day and had the mirror in 3 days!!

Just email the below link and explain the issue:

I have a 96 that auto-dims. I would like to replace it with one that has at least a compass and the temp if possible. Any suggestions?

See donnely is a good company. They are doing what is the rite thing to do is.

Donnely might replace your autodim with the one with the compas, but the wires are all different, and you need to run wires for the compass etc.

I looked ito it, just seemed like, again, not worth "re-rigging" something that wasnt meant to be.

Does anyone make one that will let me see past the spare tire and through the rear door? I could care less if it auto dims, got freking lights, or tells me what way is north. I just want x-ray powers, so I can see that stump I always seem to back over.

I was just about to buy a brand new mirror for my 96 because it was all clouded up. I always thought someone had spilled something on it!

I just e-mailed Donnely to make sure of the address of where to send my old mirror. I told them "repair"- so as not to push my luck until they get it. If they do replace my mirror, I'll send in a donation to Discoweb in appreciation of the money I have saved on this site.

Joshua - how did you find that company?! I looked everywhere, well aparently not EVERYwhere. My mistake about the LR mirrors but I am sure that Mito Corp sells their mirrors to Ford. Betcha the 2004 Discos have Mito mirrors. Then I can say I'm 100% right! :-)

well the 2004 wont be real LR anyway, so maybe i still will be 100% rite on!

actually, I think it was a combo between trying to get the to replace it, and them telliing me it was donneley who makes it, and Kyle. He helped me out last year with it too, with giving me the website. from there, it was just my natural bitching mode, that got me the new mirror. and it just fit, with no mods, problems, rewireing or even cursing.

jeff, and for all of you getting new ones to get your old one off, you need to slide the mirror down towards the dash. It takes some good force, but it will come off.

first though, I would remove the little cubby spaces above the sun visors. the whole thing is one unit, and you need to remmove it so you can get at the wire harness/plug

once to remove the cubbys/visors you can follow the wire back and try to reach the plug, which is under the hedliner. plug in new mirror, re-mount cubby/visor assembly and them slide mirror back on, sliding up from dash to ceiling

well, i am not sure how many car manufacturers they supply to, but this kind of service to the end user sure makes them look good and will help them keep strong relationships with them.

if they were a vendor of mine and i saw the service they were giving to one of my end users i would certainly think twice about going elsewhere if approached with a better deal from another vendor. pricing isn't everything, it's a lot, but not everything. after all, they are making me look good too.

I agree with Ken. I received an email today, mirror is on it's way. There was an obvious flaw in the design of this mirror, the design has been changed since and from what I understand it does not use liquid any more. Donnely is doing the right thing here and standing behind their product. After I receive it I'm going to make sure that I let LRNA know about the experience.

Corey,

I was actually thinking that as well because Lisa was who I dealt w/ as well.

To answer your question...she got back to me within a day. As stated above, they do know that there is a fault in the maufacture of the liquid mirrors so hopefully they will continue helping everyone...but they do ask for the mirror back as a scam check!

I too got an answer from Lisa at Donnelly this morning, just minutes ago... I e-mailed them on Friday night. Here is the content of her e-mail, so others will know what to expect:

"I apologize for the difficulty you are experiencing with your mirror.

Please provide the following information and I will be happy to send you a
replacement.

1. Model year and mileage of the vehicle

2. shipping address"

WOW! What great customer service! I will write them a glowing letter. The dealer quoted me almost $300 to replace it! Thanks Joshua for posting this solution to an anoying little problem, and thanks for the installation instructions as well.

I just weighed in on this late and wish I had sooner. I work for a competitor of Donnelly, er, Magna Donnelly at a mirror factory. I doubt we would do the same for an end user. In fact, I have been trying to get info on seating for another fellow and have hit brick wall after brick wall and I work for the freaking company.

Also, someone made reference to Roy Mercer... A gentleman named Adam Mercer used to be an R&D engineer here, he now works for Magna!

As much as I hate to say it, I'm glad you guys got such good response from a competitor.

Peace,
Paul

I've jumped on the bandwagon too. I've not replaced my mirror because, well, it didn't seem worth the money. We shall see if they keep sending them out.

I think that everyone is onto something here about solutions received at D-web. Maybe some sort of commitment that every time a problem is solved, I will donate $1 (I've lots of problems LOL).

A novice non-Rover owner might get the impression that all these vehicles are trouble. Not the case at all.

Just want to say,

THANK YOU!!! :-)

I guess now I'll have to brake down and buy a t-shirt and other stuff to support the site.

Got mine today. Thanks Donnely! Thanks DiscoWeb!

I will be taking the time to write a nice letter to Donnely and send a copy to LRNA.

Great Idea. We need to let the companies know when they do hit a home run in customer service.

It isnt often that "customer service" and "Rover" are found in the same sentence.

What is the corporate office address of LRNA?

WOW! You gotta love this sight!!! I've been on the net price checking rear view mirrors. The cheapest one I could find was 250.00 so I put that on the back burner for now until I read all these positive comments about Donnely. My 97 Disco also has a mirror that the liquid is half way down the mirror. I will also email and see about getting mine replaced also. I will be glad to send the old one to them so they know I'm not scamming them. Heck, obviously we all have a vehicle we enjoy and want to take care of. I am pumped!! If they know they have a defective mirror then I shouldnt have a problem. Good luck to all of you. I love this sight and want to support it. Have a good weekend.

Just got my mirror yesterday. Fantastic service. I feel bad for those that paid $250 - $300 for replacement.

OK people at least buy the stickers for $10 and support Dweb. Show other Rover owners where to go for solutions to their Rover-woes!

The freakin $300 savings is for this post only so it's the least we can do... and your rig will look cooler too. :-)

Got my mirror Monday morning. Amazing.

Sean, how did you ever find out about this "warranty" replacement?

I can now justify to my wife why I spend so much time on the "gray screen" as she calls it ...

thanks again for alerting us,

jeff

Jeff
Actually I found about the exchange a few years ago, when my mirror pissed the auto dimming oil all over my dash.
i went to the dealer and they did nothing....so I followed up with a few people on this board and found out who made them.
then I spent countless hours calling them, phone messages, fmore following up etc... eventually, I found someone who handlede the rovers, and got a new one.
I then of course came back here and let everyone know what the good word was for those with busted mirrors.

glad its helped everyone.

Joshua

my mirror is installed and im sitting pretty with my autotint.

intalling it was pretty easy. the only thing remotely tricky was removing the square electrical circuit box that runs the sunroofs. you have to remove it to get to teh plug socket for the mirror. it was actually only 2 small phillips screws that held it in, except the left side screw was located behind the head liner. So in order to get the screw out i had to crumple up the headliner a bit to get at the screw. it is not visible once the plastic console is replaced though. just thought I'd through my exeperience in FWIW.

i am also gonna go buy myself some Dweb stickers to help support the site.

Thanks Dweb.
