OK - I got my emergency cable reattached, not without chipping off some of the console so the boot won't sit flush now...GRR.. (had to remove console to run wiring, had previously posted 6/9/03 re : reattachment of cable).

Now the problem is that the release button won't move and there's no racheting "click" when I pull the handle. It functions still, just there's no way to park and set it without it dropping back. The cable tension seems right as it stops the car as expected. It seems that where the cable attaches inside the handle that it's restricting the action of the release lever/ rachet, but I swear it looks like it did before I disconnected it. I know I could probably prop something under the handle when I need to use the brake but I'd rather have it right. ANY ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Toddrover
This happens when you run the ratchet over the end of the pawl, basically it has turned inside out, you will need to take off the cable (chock wheels) and make sure everything operates freely.
What seems to happen is the rod that pushes the detent gets slightly bent and a quick wiggle with a screw driver straightens it.
Best of luck
Pete S
