Can i just seal the mother with silicone or need to replace with new gasket?Theres a trap ? I thought it was only in 91 that they started that? when it overflows it goes all over the gas tank scared for fire? tks |

the overflow of gas spills just by the exaust and would think its dangerous to have a fire situation or even an explosion? in any case i need to know if i can seal the fuel pump with silicone and will it work or what elase can i do? tks! |

IMHO-you need to pull the tank and pump and replace the gasket and check for rust probs instead of trying silicone. Try emailing Rob D as he recently replaced his pump and cut access panel to get to it. |

tks greg! i have a new tank in there and the dealer put it in there.For the gasket,can i pull the fuel pump out and just replce the gasket myself without much trouble.? i emailed rob but did not get a reply yet and i'm leaving on an expedition this morning tks |

sorry was a away.. there is some kind of expansion tank that should be taking care of this issue, it's located behind the fender where the gas cap is located. in the mean time smother that bad boy in gasket sealer rd |

I believe that in '90 they started installing access panels in rear cargo area for access to fuel pump so should be(?) easy for you to access fuel pump and top of tank. Check to see if line to expansion tank was kinked or even torn by dealer when they installed new tank. Was replacement of fuel tank a factory recall issue? I had mine (89 RRC) replaced under recall last year (no charge) due to prob with rust between tank and factory protection plate. This prob may be due to dealer work so might want dealer to look at. Fix ASAP. And carry a bigass dry chem extinguisher... |
