Hi! My husband & I have a 99 Discovery that's going to be off-warranty this month. We live in Upland, CA.(About 40 miles east of L.A.) & need to know if anyone can recommend a good "independent" dealer in the area??

Thanks!!

Thanks for the info, Greg. We used to go to the Riverside Land Rover "dealership" on Auto Center Drive for warranty work. They did a great job. Then we got a notice from LR that they were no longer an authorized dealer. Do you know if "Inland Rovers" is in any way affiliated? Or is the one on Auto Center still there?? Don't get out to Riverside too often.

Thanks,
Char

Gordon at Inland Rovers used to be a tech at Land Rover Riverside and before that at Land Rover Mission Viejo.

I haven't met Dave but he used to be a tech and team leader at Land Rover Newport Beach. (See bios on website)

They just started business about 4-5 months ago and Gordon seems to know his stuff from talking to him. They specialize in Land Rovers but also work on Hummers and Jaguars.

Land Rover of Riverside is no longer in business. They were owned by the owners of BMW of Riverside (next door) and now the Land Rover "test track" has BMW X5's sitting on it...

I've been thinking of telling them I'd like to buy a new 7 series but only if I drive it over the Land Rover "test track"... :-)

Riverside's franchise was revoked by LRNA. A very rare thing, I'm told. This happened two weeks after I bought my truck there. I dropped in to have a small part I'd ordered installed, and the place was empty except for a couple of people and the chairs they were sitting in. Ford had sent trucks the day before, and took Riverside's entire inventory away.

It was good to hear that at least some of the techs landed on their feet.

Thank-you Greg & Christopher for your feedback, it helps a lot. I was wondering if you or anybody out there has an opinion if we really need to get an extended warranty or not. We only have 22k on it. It's a 99 disco. We don't use it everyday. The farthest we go is Pasadena, Laguna, Lake Arrowhead & around town (mainly to Trader Joes!!) We haven't had any trouble with it. My husband is really handy & keeps up with all the maintenance. I guess I'm just concerned that if something major happens were going to be big-time sorry. Any feedback??
Thanks,
Char

When I had my '95, I asked a service advisor at Symes Land Rover, whom I trusted, what he thought. He felt an extended warranty was a good idea, in case I blew a transfer case or something else expensive. But that was when I was driving one of the notorious 95's.

You might search the archives here for posts on extended warranties - I know this has been covered.

Thanks again Christopher. We're taking it to the dealer to get it checked out before the warranty expires next week.

I think we've missed the boat on getting an extended warranty. I've read that you have to have one month left on your original warranty to qualify. Ours is up next week. Oh well, we're still hoping that the low mileage thing will save us in the long run.(knock on wood!)

Char,
A bit out of the way but, when I lived in OC, these guys were the best.

Ricardo is the owner, great guy. They work with my extended warranty.

Thanks Jose.
We wouldn't mind driving to Irvine, especially if they had shuttle service to South Coast Plaza or Newport Fashion Island. Any excuse to eat at "P.F.Chang's"!!!
