My friends have them they don't seem as bright as they appear on the picture. They are a little better though...

for Xenon headlamps, do you only need new bulbs? or new lenses?

they are just blue lights, not xenon. If you got true Xenons you would have to get a bulb and wirring harness and something else I think. I mean you could spend $800 to do that if you want to.

Good call, Chris. Notice the "class" at the end. I almost got hooked on these too...but the light does seem to be better.

They are a little better then stock. They just appear a little more blue. If you want new ones look at the Hella ones on EE

These are not Xenon bulbs. They just give a similar appearance. Xenon up-grades on new cars can cost up-to $1500. If I'm not mistaken true Xenon headlights don't have an element like a standard light bulb. An electrical current is passed through the Xenon gas which ignites. I can't remember where I read this so there's a chance its wrong.

I have heard good things about the Hella's and the PIAA's though. The PIAA's seem a bit over priced though.

check out www.autodirectsave.com, click the link to hid lighting, the company sells three different kits, all are plug and play.
I have the Hella Kit, which was the only one avaiable at the time. If I had to do it again I would do the Phillips. The missing link to the true xenon lights is that there also is a ballast that is included along with the bulbs, wiring and relays. The kits that autodirect sells are priced well, I have had the lights in my d90 for alittle over a year, with no complaints, except for oncoming traffic.

Just curious. Why the Phillips over Hella ? I've been eyeing an HID retro-fit on http://www.viggdesigns.com
Ofcourse the kits on autodirectsave.com is less expensive, now that I know about them.

I use to have those cheap bulbs they sell on ebay. I actually thought the light output was significantly better than the factory bulbs. 2-3 months after I bought them one burnt out so I put the stock ones in again. It sucked getting used to the lower light output again. I've been meaning to get another set, they are only like $10. The only thing I worry about is melting the wires on the factory harness. That would suck. Those bulbs I had were like 100w.
Maybe those hella bulbs with 55w draw but 85w output are worth the extra $$$.

luis I taked to both the company martin reccomended and to martin himself.

I asked teh same question.

The hall and phyllips set up are identicle, but the bulbs made by hella are blue and the phillips ones are white ( like you would see in the audi or mercedes.)

install seems to be pretty easy, a few wires to tap, harness and ballasts.

time to scrounge money

www.hid4less.com, is a good website for reference on what xenon lighting is, they offer retrofitted lighting for all makes and models. There is a crazy looking Hummer H2 on the site too.
Luis, the reason for the phillips over the hella, i prefer the intense clean white look rather then the blue. The hella kit would be great for four wheeling in the snow though, not much of that in south florida.

Martin,
I was on hid4less website today. The application for D1 has only low beam capability according to them. I don't know about anybody else, but I don't like tha idea of giving up my high beam lights. Did you forfeit your high beams with your HID kit ? Is that typical of HID on all cars ?

Hey Luis,
it is true, with HID lighting, you do loss your high beams. The brightness and distance the Hid carry makes up for the high beam. There is a kit that autodirect sells that is bi-xenon, which gives you both low and high beam. Bi- xenon has a cone over the bulb and all that occurs is for low beam the cone covers more of the light, then in high beam the cone moves forward and allows more light to be distributed. The light never gets brighter though.
