my discoII used to make this crazy knocking sound when I accelerate. Went to the shop and they told me to try premium gas..now NO KNOCKING... I used to put in regular.. well, I guess more $$ on this already gas guzzling truck for me.. try it, it really worked. BTW, how many of you use premium on your truck?

Nothing but premium. Always use the good stuff in your Rover. How long you use the cheap stuff?

No Gull around this little whight 93D1 3.5i
I have a prozone fuelsaver and (Valve Saver) fitted, I can tell you that I noticed a big difference in smoothness and power after fitting. The economy savings are nice too.
Go have a read.

it may sound funny but the moment I filled my truck with premium, knocking disappeared..of course, I drove until the yellow light popped up on my gas gauge. The guy at the shop said that octane level really matters...seems like it. The problem here in Korea is that premium costs like $1.50/litre

I'm with Chris. Regular undleaded always. Wouldnt want to spoil the truck with premium, she might get used to it. Regular is expensive enough at over $1.50 per GALLON.

Glad I'm not in Korea. Lets see, 3.846 liters per gallon, $1.50 per liter, so one gallon is, $5.77 OH MY GOD! So 12 miles per gallon means it costs $2.08 to drive 1 measly mile. I would probably rather walk!

God Bless America!

I'm with the Regular guys as well, my dealer insist on telling me to use Premium, I did for two months and found that the only thing I was doing is spending more money at the pump, money that I should have been saving for my next Disco repair! I use only Exxon or Mobil (same company), I have a friend that works for Fina and he told me their research shows Exxon gas to be the best!

For what it's worth, I use Premium in my Disco. I don't notice any difference really, but was told by the Land Rover guys that the added cleaners are better for your fuel injection system. Sound credible???

I do a lot of short town kilometers during the week and have trouble with the plugs fowling up due to the disco running very rich when cold. Alternating between premium stopped this.
Run a few tanks of premium through to clean the injection system and then alternate with every third tank being premium.
I alway run premium in the bush for extra power down low.

Oh by the way has anyone heard of the oil company PittPenn or something like that? I found it at a local hardware store, it cost $.84 a quart for 5w-30. I wouldn't use that in my Rover.

Gas prices here in Texas are pretty cheap compared to other states I guess, I just paid $1.37 for Mobil regular, premium was just $1.57. Hey Pete, think with the same mentality as your last post, why would you not use PittPenn oil? Maybe because you never heard of it or maybe because the cheap price might mean cheap oil, hense cheap price, cheap gas!!!!

I think that the higher octane helps to prevent carbon build-up on the valves, a common problem with rovers. Geogia has the least expensive gas in the U.S. nearly zero in state tax. I am paying $1.42 for 93 at BP.

Yeah your right Tony!! Hahaha oh well you got me there. It was funny when I read the back of the bottle, it said that the oil doesn't meet U.S. requirements and that its only for older cars. Another thing whats the difference between 93 from one gas station to another. I understand about the additives but how much different can they really be? I can't see gas stations say its 93 when its not.

There should not be that much difference in octane levels from one gasoline to another, as I understand it there are strict guidelines set up by the Gov. to measure octane levels for every gas manufacturer. Octane is basically the measure of the gasoline ability to burn or combust. Higher Octane levels means better combustion, less engine knocking and such. You do have to remember that nothing is constant so one gasoline companies 93 rating could be off a few or several degress higher or lower than another. Another thing to note that most cars do not benefit from running higher octane ratings that specified by the car manufacturers, although an older car can find benefits in running higher octane ratings due to carbon deposits in the combustion chamber. Extra or Supreme gas is just a higher level of detergents just FYI, can you guys tell that I have a lot of time in my hands!!!!

You think premium gas and good oil is expensive try paying for a valve job.

There is a direct and highly signifigent correlation to regular gas and valve jobs.
