Almost got tail ended today, because both of my brake lights are not working. A lady was nice enough to tell me. I took the bulbs out and both look fine. Has anyone had this problem before? Ill try to figure it out tomorrow, but was going to see if anyone had any ideas.

Thanx
Ryan

replace the switch behind the brake pedal. It's not getting a signal that you're pressing the brakes.

It's a PITA BTW.

Also check the wiring behind the tail lights. I have a 94 RR and have twice found the wires worn through. Not sure why but when they are spliced back they work fine.

i agree with john, the wiring behing can get worn through over time, one other thing to check - the bulb holders themselves are not brilliant - check to see that they still make contact with the bulb, the sliding connection (inside the holder) tends to tarnish causing the current not to reach the bulb, its also easy to put the bulb in back to front on my 86 rrover causing them not to work correctly-this causes no end of amusement to the driver behind!

yes, yes and yes.

start with the switch on the pedal. it can be adjusted (which is also a pain) but might be better than buying a new one. the threads can slip and it wont make contact. you can feel when it does, you'll figure it out once you're down there.

then move on to the wiring in the tail lights... kind of a chistmas-tree-lights-gone-bad is what you might end up with, but its not much worse than Looooocaaaaaaaaasss.

honestly the switch adjustment drove me so crazy that I just ended up shimming my brake pedal with nickles and quarters and some gaffer tape.

Must have had about 50 cents under there before I started parting the truck out!

This is a fun one to figure out for sure...
