Just bought a new 2003 Disco. The dealer said that the Freelander and Range Rover are OK to use synthetic motor oil, but that the Disco was not. Perhaps something in the composition of its oil seals, etc. Any insight from anyone? I have used Mobil 1 for years on other cars, but I don't want to use it on my new truck if it will cause a problem. |

Don't you get free maintanance with your 2003 Disco? If so I would let the dealership change the oil the way they see fit. |

I can't inagine that the DIII isn't O.K. with synthetic oil, The engine is from the old Range Rover and they used synthetic oil in that. My DII gets synthetic every 4K and I have had no issues with it.-Matt |

Andrew, I'm using Castrol Syntec 5W-50 in my '03 Disco. No problems. For those who are wondering, scheduled maintenance is included with the '03 Discos. My dealer offers the option of bringing in your own synthetic oil or using theirs (at $8/qt). It's much cheaper to bring your own. -Eugene |

5w30 We have customers who use synthetic on 03 DIIs. Most bring their own but I always keep a change of Mobil One 5w 30 on the shelf if anyone requests it. Personally I don't see a problem using 5w50 or 5w40euro that we have for FL and 03 RR but since they are not the specified weight for a discovery we err on the side of caution with customers vehicles.
