Rpm's dont match gear ratio

Author Message   DARRELL (Puppywhopper) New Member Username: Puppywhopper Post Number: 1 Registered: 06-2003 Posted on Friday, June 13, 2003 - 01:58 pm:    my 96 disco has a 4 speed auto..at 70 mph im turning 2500 rpm's at 60mph in 3rd im turnin 2500rpm..i also have a 1 ton chevy with 4 speed auto and 4:11 rear gears it turns 2500 rpm's in 3rd gear also.. both trucks have the same size tires ...im wondering if my disco has the stock gears 3.54 ratio   Roger M (Ciscowiz) Member Username: Ciscowiz Post Number: 47 Registered: 02-2003 Posted on Friday, June 13, 2003 - 03:24 pm:    Block the front wheels so they dont move, put your transfer case in neutral, lift one side of the Disco, mark a chaulk line on your rear drive shaft and start counting the # of turns your drive shaft turns for one tire rotation. 3.5 turns would be 3.55, 4 or more shaft turns and you are in luck!
