Hello, People I'm hoping for some insite as to the pros and cons from 94 to 97 year discos. I read/hear that some yrs are more prone to certain problems. I'm looking for one that will be reliable and not leave my family and I on the road stuck. I consider myself to be pretty good when it comes to repairing vehicles, but know that there are certain vehicles that require a little more attention, special toll and skill than others. I want to stay in a certain $ amount when buying my disco and I think with the research I have done, the 94-97 yr are in my $ frame. Any personal experience, feedback or website that might help would be greatly apprreciated. Be Safe,

You can find a lot of info on this subject by seaching the archives by using the "search" link in the upper right corner of the page. My advice would be to stay away from 96 and early 97 models. They are the lowest production quality Discos by reputation. Overall they are sound running vehicles just a lot of electrical problems. The 95's tend to have sticking valves. That's just a little info and you can find much more in archives. |

If you can afford it go for the late model 97's. You can find the manufacture date on the inside of the drivers side door. Or like M.K. said and get a 94 if you can find one. Only drawback would be higher miles and a 3.9 V8 rather than 4.0. The engine size doesn't make a huge difference though. I'm not putting down the 96's but more than less you will find that the 96's don't perform as well as the other years (I have a 96 SD and have had electrical problems but the engine is very sound. Keep in mind that it's the electrical problems that will get you stranded in most cases). And if you end up buying one don't freak out when (not IF) the check engine light comes on. It's a given. That brings another point - the 96 and newer have OBDII systems on board which means you can diagnose problems a little easier than the OBDI (pre-96) or at least narrow them down. Just had to chime in again... Have fun Rover shopping! |

I've got a 96, well maintained by the previous owners and it's in great shape. I love it. |
