Hey guys - I have a quick question. I recently bought a set of OME HD shocks and springs for my DII off a friend. They were on his truck for about 3 or 4 months until he decided to put his truck back to stock in order to sell it. The shocks were in my basement for about 6 months (not compressed). As I was putting them in the truck I noticed that when I compressed the shocks by hand they were not very firm. They actually felt like they were "stuttering" on the way down ie/ they caught then gave a bit then caught as they were compressed. Once compressed they were very firm coming back up and then down again. Anyway, I put them in the truck with the springs but the ride feels quite bouncy. Nice and stiff on straight road but feels bouncy on potholes, speedbumps etc. I jumped on the front end and the bumper seems to ride up and down a few times before settling (although seems equal on all sides). Is this a normal ride for this suspension or does anyone think the shocks may be shot? Can these things get wrecked if left extended for a period of time? I don't have any other truck up here to compare to, so I figured maybe someone might have a suggestion on the board. Thanks guys.

Jay

I think it's typical for HD. Throw some more weight in the back. I don't think you can hurt a shock by leaving it extended.

After re-reading "bumper seems to ride up and down a few times before settling", you may indeed have a shock problem. I checked my truck: one push down on the front bumper causes only a rise back to normal position, with maybe a little side-to-side wiggle.
