Bought a 99 DII. Love the thing. I am a little familiar with the Disco line as my buddy has two DI's that we've worked on quite a bit. I have three questions as it pertains to my new beast.

1. It's a 1999. It's the rust/burnt orange color. What's the "official" name for this color?

2. It has 40,000 miles on it. Do I need to do anything with LRNA to ensure I can use the remainder of the warranty?

3. At highway speeds there is a little more drive train whine that I would have expected, however, I know the LR's do have a certain amount of gear whine. Is this normal?

TIA,
BruntOdisco

I don't think you have to do anything to transfer the factory warranty. Unless you and your buddy are really good at working on these things, you may want to get an extended warranty before the factory one runs out. This way you should not have a waiting period and it may be cheaper. So far mine has paid over 4 times what I paid for it and I only have 61k miles.

Drive train whine is normal. Lots of gears in the transfer case.

Great thanks, I tell ya though these XPC tires are loud! Louder than my 33" BFG ATs on my Jeep. These are gonna have to go. May try the Michellan Cross Terrains. Thanks for your help guys.

Some whine is normal. It's a Rover! When you're whine becomes as loud as my rear diff. then I would worry. Happy driving Troy, you need to get one for yourself now!

Kinversand is the color, we've got one. Well, my wife's got one, one day it will replace my D1. Whine is normal, grinding is not. If your friend has D1's, stick by his side and never cross him, he may just be your knight in shining armour someday:-)

Mine makes a high pitched whine, almost a whistle on the highway. I don't hear it at city street speeds so I assume it's part drivetrain and part wind chaffing!

Burntodisco, you've got to make sure you still have time left on your warranty, too. A lot of 1999's are out of warranty by time (not by mileage). If you give me your last 8 digits of your VIN, I can look for you. You can fill out the little card in the back of the owners manual and LR will update you as the new owner. Since the original warranty is fully transferable, though, LR won't give you a hard time if you go in for warranty work.
