Just ordered one from AB myself. Got a 96 and the radio isn't picking up even strong stations like it used to. I've always heard that it is in the antenna.

according to the workshop manual, you have to go up through the fenderwell and detach it( if I remember correctly.) Did'nt look that hard.
At least on a NON-POWER one. Is yours power or fixed?

Don't have my book right now- loaned it out today.

go with a non powered antenna too. greater risk of breaking a power one and the cost savings is worth it too.

'96 SHOULD have a power antenna on the passenger side fender. the only other place there were located was in the rear windows on the '97's+.

I just replaced mine yesterday!! Dealer told me it was a 3 hour job....did it in 30 minutes!!! U gotta take the underside fender off(Plastic piece above the tire in the wheel well) Anyways, You also have to take your glove box door off to pull the antenna wire through. The antenna wire runs through the firewall behind the windshield washer fluid box. Get a flash light and have someone help you see where the antenna enters the interior of the car. Its real easy to find if you trace the antenna from the back of your radio to the firewall. Any questions, drop me an email polofella26@hotmail.com good luck, Glen

it is power if you can pull it up. and yes all 96's were power. after '96 they were in the rear windows. a much better solution. just replace your power one with a whip style generic one. much better replacment in my opinion.

gp, all 96's were NOT power. Neither my 96 or Ron's 96 have power antennas.

then why is my '96 power? and many or all of the '96's i have seen were as well?
'94's were manual of course and were '95's i think.
and i know for sure they went to antenna's in the rear windows in '97 and have been there since.
damn rovers.....kinda like the whole freaking rotoflex issue i guess.
now that i think of it the power antennas were only on SE or SE7's. so the trim levels depended on whether or not you had a power antenna. ahhhhhhhhh. right?

Maybe that's it, trim level. I got a 96SD with a manual antenna and a rotoflex, and I'm loving life !

Yep. Trim level. I think it works out to if you have manual seats, you have a manual antenna. And you're right about "damn rovers" ... you can never make a 100% for sure statement about Land Rovers. There's always some exceptions. Like in 2001 when all SEs were supposed to come with leather and dual sunroofs... and then some started showing up with no sunroofs... but they were still SEs... and then LR sent out a memo and said, "Oops. Hey did you notice we sent out some SE's without sunroofs? Sorry about that. How about we refund some money to you." LR is really annoying that way. Like who has child seat tethers in 2001? There's no pattern to it. Some had them, some didn't. There is no way to say for sure without going to the car and looking for them. Eh. I guess that what makes LR "unique" and appealing. They're quirky. Oh well.

Since we are talking about replacing antennas..has anyone tried the FireStik FM antenna? Since it has a greater diameter and proper length, it is supposed to have better reception for the AM/FM bands; that is what the website says. I am not sure I like the fact that you cannot lower the antenna and have to let it bend when going through brush. Any feedback?
Chris
