Poison played PNC Arts Center here in New Jersey last night, and my wife and I went to see them. I have to say, they put on quite a show! The ticket included Skid Row and Vince Neil as opening acts. Then Poison came on, and opened up with "Look what the Cat dragged in", complete with flamethrowers, smoke and pyrotechnics. They played all their old hits, plus a nice selection of new stuff. If you do get a chance to see them this summer, it is well worth it.

I listen to many different groups, Poison is one of them. And to dismiss Poison as a has-been hair band like many do, is unfair. Sure, they are not as big now as they were back in the late 80's and early 90's, but that's ok. They have evolved quite nicely over the years, though. Listen to "Crack a Smile" some time, that record is all over the spectrum. It is mainly a rock album, but it was clearly influenced by many other styles such as blues, funk and even rap.

And when Poison put on a show, they go all the way. The pyrotechnics alone is worth the cost of admission. :-)

We've signed several Heavy Metal groups from the 80's and early 90's. Ratt, Dokken, Iron Maiden, to name a few. Their music doesn't see the light of day anymore on Radio, but they have loyal fanbases, stay out on tour and work hard. We can release a record an often sale 100K over a few months.

ROCK ON DUDE!

Yes, it was obvious that Poison still have a big, loyal fanbase out there. I believe PNC Artc center seats 7000, plus there is general admission on the lawn. All the seats were filled, and there were a large crowd on the lawn, as well. So I would estimate that the crowd was somewhere in the range of 10,000 or so. Everybody knew the lyrics to all the songs, too. The crowd sang along to everything Poison played throughout the entire show, it was amazing. Any band who can pull off something like that, is head and shoulders above your average bar band.... The show was great, if you like good, loud, old fashioned Rock'n Roll, it is well worth it to go see them this summer.

Actually, we were listening to WKTU, an oldies station, but I do listen to the norwegian bluegrass, too. Not to mention Yes, which I have also seen live a few times. So yeah, my taste in music is pretty diversified...... :-)

Axel, I know awhile ago we discussed legal downloading. Have you checked out:

www.applemusic.com

It's my understanding they "sold" 250K downloads the first day they were in operation. $.99 a single, $9.99 for an album.

My days are numbered...

Ax, isn't KTU that hip-hop/club music station where Ru Paul was a DJ at one time? (I have a 16 year old sister so I know these things ) I'm pretty diverse in my music as well, the only thing I can't stand are those techno-hiphop-ish music that seemed to have one set of chords that repeat over and over and over and....

What a weird coincidence...
We have all been singing "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" at work today. Someone mentioned it earlier, and it has infiltrated our subconcious. It has been that song "stuck in your head you can't get rid of" and we have been joking about it all day.

You know Jon, taste is a subjective thing. Either you like something, or you don't, and that's cool. I don't like or dislike something because that's what I am supposed to do. As I get older I like what I like, and that's that. As I said, I like Poison, and many others. I like Rikki's solo record, too. And I enjoyed the concert, I always liked seeing music played live the way it is supposed to be heard. And of course the 2 backstage passes Rikki gave me made it even more enjoyable... :-)

John: yeah, I read about the Apple music store the other day. I haven't had a chance to really checking it out yet, but I like the concept.

The Apple Music Store is a nice concept. I've purchased about 30 or 40 tracks from it so far. It is limited to Mac users for now, though Apple promises a Windows version at some point in the near future.

Songs are encoded in AAC format. The quality is pretty good, though some audiophiles claim they can tell the differences between AAC (128kbps) and a high-quality MP3. Since I listen to music mostly at work and while driving, it's somewhat difficult for me to spot the quality differences.

Just checked...the store does offer Poison. Heck, there are three different versions of "Something to Believe In".

Personally I think MP3's sound like crap, tinny with flatuant bass. Have you heard SACD yet?

I think the chicks in the videos were pretty hot, and the band looked cool, too. They look more like this now: (still cool, but different from the 80's look)

What?! They're dudes? Next you'll be telling me the singer from Judas Priest is

I guess at 32 I can admit to being a closet Poison fan without worrying about my friends beating my ass for it. Back in '88 it wasn't safe to listen to hair bands in my circle of underground thrash-metal fans.
Glad to hear they're still putting out new music, I'll check it out.

I got to see them in the 80s, backstage meant very little until I walked into a room full of fellas with lots of hair and a tub full of iced Heineken. Next thing I know, I'm using a folding chair to open beers. Didn't even know one of the guys was Jon Bon Jovi until afterwards. I didn't know who they were, I wanted a beer!

Paul, that reminds me of what I consider one of my first "Rock N Roll Experiences". I was working as an intern for CBS records. I was with the Epic Promotion guy and we were about to do a Radio interview with Cheap Trick and the big Rock station in town. We arrived at the hotel and he and I were first to the room. He gets on the phone and orders a case of Heinekien and 10 shrimp cocktails. I thought, "WOW, ROCK N ROLL!, this is the job for me!"
