Cool. I saw a MOD D110 this morning on the way to the airport. First one I've ever seen around here.

Sorry,

That is a Series 3 109 with some defender stuff on it (which, is ok). You can tell b/c there are rusty leaf springs under the truck. If you look at the first picture, right behind the rear tire, there is the leaf spring right under the exhaust pipe.

Still, it is nice to see LHD LWB trucks around. It looks like someone tinkered with it. Could be for better or worse.

Alan,

I was talking to a Jeep guy (this is going downhill, LOL), when he commented that he had seen a few Camel Trophy vehicles around town. He said that they were the real thing with diesel engines, RHD, full kitted out, etc. I don't know if I believe him but it still makes the mind wonder.

Max, yes its definately a series vehicle, I think Alan was just saying that he saw a ex MOD D110 the other day going along with the thread of "Unexpected Rover Sightings".

A guy at work here has an ex MOD 109 softtop, thats a nice truck too. I'd love to get a 24V 109. :-)

It looks like a stage I V8 109.
those were built towards the end the 109 life, just before starting the development of the 110.

It has a V8 3.5 along with different beam axle than the standard 109, more similar to the RR of the time.
I also believe, but I could be wrong on this one that it is permanent 4X4 again like the RR.

regards,

Landy

Sorry Eric, I guess I just caught a bad case of dumbass disease. Happens sometimes. Besides, I posted at midnight, that only compounded my problem.

Yea, so next time just my face in because I'm and .

Once again, sorry for being .

Also, nice looking disco in the back. I assume its yours (since the lights are still on). You should see about getting that 109, then you would have a matching set .

Hiya Chuck!

Naa, it just caught my eye. From the highway my heart skipped a beat when I first saw it because I thought it was a D110.

it is a series III stage 1 V8 station wagon, an easy way to tell it's not a D110 is by looking at the hood D110 don't have a tire mount on the hood.

In May, I spotted these unusual Stage I V8s in Botswana. Never even knew that a 6x6 Stage 1 was made until I saw them...

that is truly strange nathan i have never seen one of those before i almost wonder if they might have added the extra set of wheels seeing as how the bed doesn't look the same as the cab...so to me it looks like a series III H.C.P.U., but i could be wrong all and all great find nathan

Nathan-

Are they 6X6's or 4X6's? They may have just added a second rear axle to help support the load. Then again...

Were you able to check them out that closely?

Would still be cool to have one in the yard.

Check out www.landroverworldflorida.com and you will find a 6x6 series truck. I don't know if it was stock or custom, but it is interesting.

I didn't get a chance to see if the rear axle was in fact powered or not. As you can see by the tree growing between the rear bulkhead and rear bed, it's been sitting there for quite some time and the undergrowth was pretty heavy.

As far as it being a genuine conversion or aftermarket, it's hard to say. LR ZA does some pretty wild stuff because of the unique market down there. They now offer factory 147s in both game viewers and station wagon trim (got to see a 6 door 147SW but it was too dark get pics).

Thanks,

One more odd sighting for the record--I saw a 1993 Defender 110 pulling a trailer in Goliad, Texas on July 7, 2003. this was at the inersection near the Whataburger coming from the State park. Not a strange truck, but a strange local...DougC

Brian,

It was very definitely a Stage I V-8. As far as the bed on it, it appears to be more in line with a drop side bed like on this 130 tipper.

Thanks,

Doug,

i think i saw that same truck around Oklahoma City about three weeks ago. it was a blue D110 pulling a white trailer. if i remember right it had Ontario plates. i was quite surprised when i pulled off the highway to find a 110 sitting at the gas station. i talked to the owner for alittle bit, and was told it has a 200tdi in it, that he upgraded to the specs of a 300tdi. I wish i could have been getting the same gas mileage he was.

The Australian Army has used 6x6 Landrovers since the early 80's; there were some used by the SAS in Iraq.

Garth,

I've seen other 6x6s before. The thing that caught me off guard was the fact that it was a 6x6 Stage I V8...

Thanks,

Connor-this was just your average, run-of-the-mill d110; white with an external cage. The odd part was the setting. Goliad alwayd seemed like a Ford or Chevy town...Doug
