just purchased my first disco, a 2000 SE, perfectly maintained, and in great condition...

one thing however concerns me, the "tic tic tic" of the lifters (or at least i assume it's my lifters)

the dealership said it's a landrover thing, and indeed, many of the certified pre-owned discos "tic"'ed. advice?

also, where, aside from this great site, can i find good beginners info on disco's and using them for what they are designed to do? I never off roaded before, and I would like to, along with modding my disco, and keeping it alive forever.

BTW, the tic is very very faint, but i definately would say that it is a valve noise.

i had several audis before, and they all tic'ed, and nothing was wrong with them....

Discos do have valve tic issues. If you search the discussion archives you'll be able to find which model years had what symptoms.

My DII has a ticking sound, which was identified by a dealer mechanic as the vapor handling system's valve. Evidently the fuel system has a collector for fuel vapors, which it feeds into the engine after it's warmed up a bit, and the valve to do this ticks.

Oh yes, that's a normal noise. It's like being in the engine room of a u-boat or something.

ExpeditionsExchange.com (http://www.expeditionexchange.com/) is a great place to find mod parts. A little plug for Ho, the Dweb moderator... :-)

Other than the mod sites there is a lot of off roading info and how to's on the club sites like:
http://www.pcrc.net/ (Washington, Oregon)
http://www.norcalrover.org/ (N. Cali)
http://www.roverriders.org/ (Colorado)
http://www.spanishtrailrovers.com/ (Florida)

Go here to find more clubs:
http://www.colonialrovers.com/links/links.html

And other sites like:
http://www.landroverenthusiast.com/
http://discountrovers.com/
http://www.robisonservice.com/

Many, many more sites. Look in the links area of this site to find the best resource.

Join your local club! Hopefully someone will be nice enough to teach you the ins and outs of off-roading. You could also go to a LR driving school... $$$, but a great experience.
