Anybody know if the 1998 50th Anniversary Edition Discos have consecutive VINs and if so, what the start and stop VINs are? I am referring to the U.S. spec ones of which I believe there were only 500.

A guy I know asked me if I could figure out what "number" in line his was (like #356 of 500). I really think he wants to sell it to me but he hasn't come out and said that yet.

Does anybody know if the line number is printed on the vehicle anywhere? I'm really curious about this.

If I remember correctly, in J Talyor's Disco book, it said there were only 50 made and each had a small brass plaque with build number on the dash somewhere. I'll double check tonight, I don't have the book with me now.

only 50??? wow... even more impressive. The guy wanting the info doesn't own it as i've just learned... he's looking into buying it himself and thought I might know (why he'd think that I'll never know).

Here is where I got the 500 number from:

Update.

The friend's financing fell through on this 98 he was looking at. Its a good thing it did.

I drove over to look at it (4 hours round trip). It wasn't the 50th Anniversary Edition... just had the "50 years of Land Rover 1948-1998" sticker in the window. Some people... ARGH!

It had the same interior as my 96 for the most part, not the two-tone seats nor any other indication that it was one of the 50ths.

After talking to LRNA today, they told me that ALL 500 of the 50ths were green, without exception (hey, thats what they told me)... this one was blue.

The dingleberry BS artist trying to unload this plain-jane 98 LE with 82K on the clock also said it had premier sound (some $125 stereo from Wal-Mart) and the factory DVD (which turned out to be some kit in a bag that hung from the back of the driver's seat. All 5 tires needed replacement. Oil all over the dude's driveway when he said "nope, never a leak" and I crawl underneath and EVERYTHING was covered in oil. Some minor interior blemishes and a good size dent in the rear quarter panel.. "no dents or scratches... she's perfect".

To top it off, the dude wants 15K for it. If I wasn't a civilized man, I believe I would have kicked his arse for making me drive that far to waste my time. Its one thing to have a vehicle that needs some love but don't blatently lie about it, especially when someone has to make an extra effort to come and see your offering.

Word to the wise, if anybody looks at a blue 98 LE in the Prince Fredrick area of Southern MD, give me a shout first. There were more problems than I felt like typing.

Well, on the bright side, he did have the rear load space cover intact. Although it was raining pretty hard when I got there and it was doing nothing much more than providing a place for water to pool from the leaking sunroof.
