I ordered my winch today, and will be putting it on hopefully this weekend if they ship it fast. I was trying to find some instructions with pics and what not on the net and came across this.

"There was conflicting information as to which winches would fit this bumper with most sources quoting the Warn M8000. However, as pointed out by the folks at ARB (1-888-427-2872), there are two versions of the non-SRS bumper & the newer model (part # 3432030/030) was built to accommodate the XD9000,"

My bumper is part number 3432080 I believe.
Will my Warn 9000 fit?

Are there any good instructions out there because I can't find any. This will be my first winch experience and I want to make it a smooth one.

Any help will be appreciated.

Actually, I just put mine on today (XD9000 on an SRS ARB bar for DII).

Is yours for a DI or a DII?

Here's what I did (and feel free to e-mail/post again for more details):

1. Find a friend to help.

-I think that this job is at least a 2 man job. Fortunately, while we were at the shop, another buddy of mine came by and helped out (thanks Erik and Mike)

2. Determine which way the winch will fit into the bull bar.

-I know it sounds stupid, but I had to mount my winch seemingly ***backwards*** to fit properly, i.e., all of the stickers w/directions were facing away from me when I mounted it. It may be adviseable to actually lift the winch into place to make sure it lines up with the holes the way you want.

3. Rotate the winch clutch.

-The mounting surface on the bull bar is vertical, and they ship the winch in a configuration that will mount to a horizontal mounting face.

Depending on how you will mount it (step 2), the clutch (which I am defining as the part of the winch with the selector knob on it), will need to be rotated roughly 90 degrees so that you can reach the controls after it's mounted.

To rotate the clutch, I put the winch on top of the box it came in, stood it "upright" (like a coke can stands up) so that the clutch was in the air. Remove all of the hex screws on the clutch housing. Now, ***carefully*** lift the whole clutch housing until just starts to move (roughly 1cm). Turn it until you think you will be able to reach it comfortably once it's mounted. Replace screws and tighten.

4. Drill a hole through the fairlead to line up with the lower holes on the mounting face.

-This may not be necessary depending on your bull bar. I had to drill, since there is a housing for the fairlead on the ARB for DII, and the pre-drilled hole in the fairlead did not line up with the winch mounting face. So, if you need to drill, then now is the time :-)

5. Mount the solenoid mounting bracket.

-If your bull bar does not have a solenoid mounting bracket (my friend's DI has one), now is the time to mount one. It'll become harder to mount it once the fairlead is on. Also, make sure that you mount it so that the wires on the solenoid will reach their intended position on the winch.

6. Mount the winch; top 2 bolts first, then bottom 2.

-I actually did this in reverse, and I wish I hadn't. I don't know if this'll be true for D1, but on the DII it would be a lot easier to have mounted the top 2 bolts first. Otherwise, you have to work around the fairlead, which makes life a little harder. So have someone(s) hold the winch in position and someone else fanagle with the bolts. Once the top 2 are on, then mount the fairlead to the bar, to the winch via the holes in the fairlead. It may be adviseable to take the vertical rollers off by detaching those C-clips... but I didn't have to... I just used an offset wrench. Also, it may be adviseable to put some sort of sealer on the bolts a.k.a. Locktite or something similar.

7. Wire it up.

-I actually bought an Optima Blue Top for the application because it has 2 extra posts. Also, some of the guys recommended that a deep cycle battery would be good for winching etc.

8. Buy beer for the help!

That's it. It probably took about 1.5 - 2hrs, but we were doing other things too (inverting the spare tire mount, etc), so it may be quicker.

As far as pictures... I'll take some and post tomorrow... it's kinda dark now :-)

Good luck!

heh... I just had this bright idea to look to see if your truck was in the gallery... and so it's a DI...

...well.. I'm going to see my friend w/the non-srs ARB on his DI tomorrow... I'll poke around to see if there are any huge differences... it should mostly be the same

I'll keep you posted

Ok, I didn't get to talk to the guy w/the DI bumper, but here are pics of my setup. I didn't save them in 320x240, so I couldn't post them here.

Anyway, I remember that he had a couple of tabs that may have made it difficult to mount from underneath. I'm not sure what they're for.

I don't remember if he had enough room to mount from above, but I don't think he did, so you may have to take the bar off. Not sure, though.

Anyway, good luck and post/e-mail if you have any questions.

Thanks J.P. just what I needed. Those pics were great. How many bolts hold the winch to the bumper?

4. It will come in box with the four bolts you need plus two longer "fairlead" bolts. I used the longer ones on the bottom part to go through the fairlead. to the winch.

Note: Due to a motor change that Warn Industries made in the spring of 1999, ARB winch style bull bars WILL NOT accept the new design Warn M12000, M10000 and M9000 without the use of ARB winch mounting spacer kit P/N: 3500050.

IS this true. What does the "spacer kit" consist of?

Hmmm... haven't heard that one, though I originally tried to mount an HS9500 that probably could have been mounted had I had a spacer.

It's probably some hard rubber rectangular doughnut that costs $50 :-) Seriously, don't know...
