OK - Has anyone sucessfully installed an aftermarket water temp gauge on their DI?? If so where did you tap into the system?? I have read all the posts I can find on this subject (including Perrone Ford's Tech article for Range Rovers on spanishtrailrovers.com) but my (1997) thermostat housing has no temp sender entering it nor a removable blanking plug. There is a temp sender or fan switch with a probe entering the block just to the right of the thermostat housing but my aftermarket sender fitting is 1/2 NPT, the existing looks like its 1/4 or 1/8. Is it possible to tap into the block directly like in the coolant drain plugs under the manifold?? My mechanic brother-in-law is going to look at it later this week but I'd like to do it myself if possible. Any help would be appreciated. |

Here is a picture of my thermostat housing - the screwdriver is pointing to where the shop manual show a temp sender (pre- '97 ??). The brown electical connector to the right of the thermostat housing is where there is a smaller existing temp sender or fan sensor

Consider buying a themostat housing from an earlier vehicle that is already plumbed for the temp sender you don't need. Maybe you could find one at a junk yard or Rovercannibal. |

Thanks John - I'll give that a try - first I'm going to check if Autometer makes some sort of adapter fitting |

Try a plumbing store for an adapter. Much cheaper than Autometer, and a far greater variety. -P |

If you look down below and to the right of where you are pointing, you may find that there is a plugged hole to the water jacket beneath. Also, have you considered a tee in one of the heater hoses? I originally had my temp gauge tied into one of the hoses going to the expansion tank, but now will go to a heater hose. I know it's not perfect, but it isn't rocket science either. APologies to the rocket scientists. |
