We have a 99 Discovery with just under 22k miles. Our warranty is up next week. We haven't had any problems with it so far. Any comments on a extended warranty?? Good idea?? Or should we just save the money because we have "low miles"? We haven't even looked into one, but I'd imagine they're pretty pricey. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Char |

Good idea. Disco can get expensive to repair and after about 30k is when the leaks seem to start |

If you can get the warranty through the dealer then try that option first, I think they are cheaper if you purchase while the vehicle is still under the factory warranty. Be sure to read the fine print too, certain things likes hoses (not only engine but AC, etc) aren't covered, but it still would probably be a wise investment. |

How long are you going to keep it, Char? I bought an extended warranty that was for 6yr, 100,000 mi and it was about $1,500 but I figured by 100,000 mi I should have something go wrong that justifies it. I like the piece of mind. With as little miles as it looks like you drive, I would guess that a 60,000 mile warranty would cover you for a long time - and probably only cost $900 or so. Jay is right - they are cheaper if you buy them before the original warranty is up. FYI - the LR factory extended warranty still charges $100 per visit deductible (so you can bring it in with more than 1 problem and only pay $100). Good luck! |

Thanks for all your suggestions. I appreciate it. I also read that you've got to have atleast 1 month left on your original warranty to qualify for the extended warranty, so I'm guessing we're too late. Bill, we're planning on keeping it for 20 years. Too much to hope for??!! My husband really keeps up on the maintenance. And we should always have low miles every year. At this point probably 4k per year. Maybe we'll even start a "maintenance fund" to dip into when needed!! Thanks, Char |
