95 disco, 130K miles...

as of late (last 2 weeks) my Disco intermittenly idles like sh!t. it seems fine powerwise when i accelerate or am driving but about 50% of the time when i stop for a light, OR if i sit idling for a LONG light the idle turns rough. if i put the transmition into park or netural it idles fine for a few minutes... but sometimes goes back to being rough

any ideas?!?!?!

IAS motor. Don't clean it, replace it. Look in archives under "IAS" or "Stepper motor." For your year they are about $30 at Autozone.

Hey Joseph

thanks for the lead... but i did a search on "Stepper motor" and IAS motor and didnt come up with anything... can i just go to Autozone and ask for a Land Rover Stepper Motor? it seems that any time that i go to a "regular auto parts place" and ask for anything Land Rover i get a blank stare and "i'm sorry we dont carry those..." responses. is this a "multi fit" application part. i.e. fits fords, chevys, etc...

thx

KEN

No, find the part number and order it, it'll make it much easier on you.

Actually here you go:

NAPA part #: 2-1738
AC delco part #: 25527077
Pepboys: Borg Warner #21738

Hey Ken,

I think your truck is jealous of all the time you've been spending with the jeeps and honda's :-)

try doing a search on the word "stepper" and you find a bunch of stuff.

Try searching for the IAC Valve (Idle Air Control). I had a problem like that also. Firstly I thought it was the IAC valve but it turned out to be a fuel pump. The car would run fine and then every so often (at the traffic lights) the thing would start fluctuating with its idling. Then the check engine would come on. Good luck, I would start with the IAC first.

Could also be your throttle position sensor.
