Where can you purchase a new remote key fob without being raped on price? I recall somebody mentioning a web site on discoweb that is deadicated to remote key fob's but can't find the site. This request is from a female friend that ownes a '96 Disco that knows how to drive a stick! Thank you for any help and yes I did search the archive:-)

Check out ebay motors. Go to parts and accessories and do a search for land rover.
There will probably be 500 items to search thru but the key fobs will be there. I bought one this week for $25

I dont have it yet. I should be getting it in a few days. It will have to be reprogrammed by the dealer. Its my understanding that the reprogramming fee is minimal.

Why do these things keep sucking up batteries? Anyone know the voltage requirements for the batteries? Mine came with two 1.5v batts stacked on top of one another.

Beware of "Lemonpro" selling key fobs. Mine looked good but was fried according to dealer. They replaced it and it was covered by my extended warranty! "Lemonpro" would not reply to my emails and made no attempt to correct the situation. I guess that's EBAY though. Just a FYI.

Jonathan, you may have a defective keyfob. I have a 97 disco with 86,000 miles, and I have the original batteries in the keyfob and can open the doors from 20-30 ft. away.

I have two (one for my wife) and they both have limited range. Sometimes depending on where I park I must walk right up beside my Disco to unluck the bloody doors. Other situations I can unlock the doors from 20-30 ft. as well. It seems to work best at night for some reason...less interferance I gather?
