My Transmission temp light came on (round gear with thermometer in upper left corner) in my 95 Disco on my way to work today. I dont have any trans. leaks, the fluid was changed about 3 months ago (not the filter), and I check it every saturday and it looked good. I do have a transfer box leak. Could low oil in the transfer box cause the transmission light to come on? Also, I have to drive 35 miles to get home. Should I take it to a Jiffy Lube and get my fluids topped off before my trip? Thanks for any help.

The light comes on when the oil gets too hot or if the e-brake is pulled while moving. I bet the sensor has just went bad. 26.00 from rovers north. |

Hey, thanks. The light came on for a few minutes and went off. Is there a seperate light for the transfer box temperature? Or could the transmission light by an indicator for both? |

Sounds like your transimission fluid got hot. Were you pulling something or running the shit out of your truck? You may want to check the fluid level. |

Had a similar issue a couple months ago (95 Disco). The light came on at engine start (cold). It turn out to be a bad sensor under the gearbox. Easy to check: wait until the trans is cold, crawl under your truck and measure the resistance on the sensor (left side of the trans when looking forward). If this resistance is more than 0 you have the culprit... Lionel |

It came on again this morning after a lot of heavy stop and go traffic. I hope its the sensor. I drained and replaced the fluid last night. |

I don't even know if mine is working. Ever since I got the vehicle new in 98, I have never seen it come on even during starting the car and all the lights flash to check them. Never paid it any mind, because the most I ever put on the trailer is a 700lb motorcycle. Does that mean my warning light doesn't work? How bad do I really need it ? |

The light came on again on my way home from work after about 10 minutes. I continued to drive it home (about 30 miles @ 70 mph) and nothing happened. I checked the oil and it didnt feel hot or burnt or anything. I ordered a temp switch, so I'll see if thats the problem. |
