My oil pressure problems continue... when I purchased the 1997 D1 this winter I noticed that it took over a minute for the oil pressure light to go out... and somtimes when I was driving it would come on under acceleration but go out when I stepped off the gas.

I went to this forum and got some great advise. So I dropped the pan, cleanned the oil pickup tube screen, went to 5w30 oil and replace the filter with a Land Rover OEM. Well after all that the oil light seemed to go out after about 8 seconds... I was happy with that. I drove the disco around the city for a couple of weeks with no problems.. so I figured the problem was solved...no ofcourse not, it's a Disco afterall! I couple of days ago I took the disco on the highway and the oil light started to come on again under acceleration and go off on de-acceleration. I don't seem to get any serious lifer noise when this happens and the truck doesn't seem to run any hotter. IDEAS?????

Here are the symptoms,

1. Problem is intermittent;
2. Oil light takes 8-20 seconds to go out on startup;
3. Lifter noise on startup but disappates once warms up;
4. oil light comes on during acceleration goes out during de-acceleration;
5. doesn't seem to be linked to oil temp (sometime light will come on when engine is cold);
6. car runs fine otherwise..doesn't sputter, idles fine etc....

Thanks in advance!

Have you put an oil pressure gauge on it to confirm the pressure is truly low? What about a new switch?

I finally got it to a shop that had the proper sizes oil pressure gauge and the oil pressure was in spec... but ofcourse the light wasn't coming on then. I haven't change the switch but a new one will be installed this weekend.

Also,

I know that the oil pressure is registering pressure (i.e. it's not a loose wire) but I'm hoping now that it's not registering the correct pressure...
