What a joke, they are gonna water down and milk the Hummer name for whatever they can get out it, what next a Hummer H4 based on a Geo Tracker? The only Hummer worth having is the H1.

Aren't the trailblazer's leaf's in the rear? I would guess that they use the same platform. How does it fit in size to the trailblazer? Isn't that the competition for the 4 runner?

Everyone dogs on the H2 and I wouldnt really argue in its favor but..... the only vehicle of any sort that GM sold over the past year without huge rebates or cheap financing is the H2. They sold everyone they could make at full price. They finanlly made an auto that people want. Whats wrong with that? If the H3 does that well then it will be another great business move.

The H3, according to the article here, will be "a derivative of the upcoming Chevrolet Colorado / GMC Canyon mid-size trucks." See http://www.thecarconnection.com/index.asp?article=5659 and scroll down. This explains the pickup-style leaf springs.

I heard somewhere (may have been this BBS) that the Hummer H2 has the highest rate of owner dis-satisfaction out of all vehicles. Period. My dad wanted one earlier this year, but we got that out of his system FAST. To think that he was going to trade his 2001 for it...the horror...

Why doesn't GM just slap the Hummer name on everything, how about a 2004 Hummer H5 Aztek, or a Hummer Venture Minivan, even better, just rip out all the GM logos on all the POS cars and trucks that they have sitting on their lots and put Hummer logos on them, maybe then they'll move.

I may be stupid, but I'm not dubm!

I agree that GM is going to milk the shit out of the Hummer name until it doesn't mean a thing. They should have started by making the H2 with gear-driven hubs and a real CTIS and charge about $90,000 for it. Had they done that....I think people would consider it a "real" Hummer.

After that they could then make a smaller version for $70,000 and continue making it cheaper with various lesser-models and cashing in on all the people THINKING they're buying a Hummer. They are in business to make money and sell vehicles...not provide the extremely small minority with a truly offroad capable vehicle.

As for the "disatisfaction" quotient....that's bullshit. Everyone I've ever run into loves the heck out of their H2. It's only because everyone agreeably notes the sucky gas mileage that the warped statistic exist on disatisfaction. I've never met a single H2 owner who isn't thrilled and ear to ear with smiles.

What will happen is what HAS happened: people will call the H1 a "real" Hummer and everything else is just a modified GM truck. Course, what people don't know is that the H1 is made from several "other" manufactuers parts: GM, Ford, Chrysler..all sorts of stuff.

I think you guys are a bit nervious: the H3 may just roll in at around the same size as your Disco's and if is has a locking transfer case, rear axle locker and a bit more clearance.......it's gonna hit too close to home.

If the H3 has all of that(lockers and such) I'd actually give it a good look. I bet the disatifaction quotint comes more from greenies who want to try and disqualify the hummer so less people buy them. So Steve, how does it feel to be the root of al evil and drive so bad for the environment? :-)

Daniel...

I don't think that's a Disco under the H1....but if it were....this picture could reproductively explain how they produced an H3 :-) :-) :-)

Do Hummers suck? yes they do! If you put a supercharger on one they also blow. And they swallow gas too! So what have we learned: Hummers involve sucking, blowing and swallowing. And you guys still want nothin' to do with 'em?

Carter...did ya check out my video?

The disatisfaction issue is firmly centered around 4 major issues: Cost, gas consumption, difficulty to get into and width/ease of parking. Turns out the H2 is NOT the ideal vehicle for yuppie soccer moms.

Who cares...let's go offroading! :-)

I've also read about "dissatisfaction" with Hummers. Steve's right - it was about gas mileage, not about build quality or capability.

Having seen Steve's videos, I'm prepared to say that the H2, at least compared with other GM trucks, is a real offroad vehicle. The H3, being based on a pickup, with rear leaf springs and light-duty components, might not be.

PS - Still, when I see an H2 parked somewhere, immaculately clean and obviously never having been used offroad, I mutter hatefully to myself...

I know that I'm going to get flamed, but I think the H3 looks kinda nice. It will be a big seller that is for sure. Trail-worthy and rugged...I'm sure it won't be, but sell the heck out them they will..

I seriously think that IS a freelander that they're playing around with. That "spy shot" was just a bogus thing. All the H3 recon I've got indicates the thing looks very similar to an H2.

Chris....you said the H2 is a real offroad vehicle: I wouldn't go that far! If you really wanna go offroad....a shorter wheelbase and SFA would likely serve better. What the H2 is...is a darn good full-sized vehicle that is fairly well suited to absorb more abuse then a typical GM truck. If you want a reasonable offroad, perhaps you should check out a LR Discovery!

As for your comment about the immaculate H2's you see....yeah, it's kinda pathetic, but just figure those pavement princesses will one day be the prestine H2 YOU buy!!!

Robert....uh...well...what the heck: flame you! :-)

That photo doesn't look right. If it is a Hummer, then at least they are trying to put it up against a real truck - the 4Runner. But it doesn't even resemble a Hummer. Like some others here have noted, it looks more like a Freelander with the new stupid Disco mixed in. But what in the world is with those leaf springs? Just proves that they really are pimping the Hummer name to put on bad GM ideas that didn't sell the first time around.

And that photo of the HI on top of something - the guy was taking his frustrations out on someone who had screwed him over. It was in Portland on the news the other day, but I didn't catch the whole story - it was my bed time.

I think it's a Rogh model of the FJ Cruiser from Toyota (see link).
Going for the whole retro land cruiser look, notice the white grill and round head lamps.

What absolutely amazes me is the number of those Hummers that I see running around South West Florida decked out with more chrome railing than my boston whaler. I mean, god bless, a chrome roof rack? chrome brush guard, chrome this, chrome that, chrome gas flap, geez............. Even saw one yesterday with all that shit on it and had rims that must have been 22 or 23 inches in diameter, and when the truck stopped the center kept spinning.

What a joke.

You can vote on the FJ concept from Jason's link above. I vote yes, I give a thumbs up to any vehicle like that, maybe it could help bring the defender back to the us. Or at least give us options in vehicles to wheel with.

Yeah Greg there are a bunch of getto H2s here in the G.N.O.. The one thing I havn't see yet is a lowered H2 so if anyone has a pic please post it. Is it just me or do yellow H2s look like schoolbusses?

The H3 seems like typical corpate thinking. The H2 being a watered down H1 sold well. Therefore a watered down H2 will sell even better.

I was put in touch with Chris at Boomco about joey pack tire covers. He said they were thinking of making a prototype tire cover for Discoverys that says:

HUMMER RECOVERY VEHICLE

Now when I see the ever increasing number of Hummers in my area, I think of that and giggle!

Dave,

That sight is comical. However, I must admit that if I had to cash to lay down on a Hummer, I would buy one.

Greg,

I saw one of those chromed out versions here in Jacksonville. That thing was perfectly clean and polished. What is up with those wheels that keep moving after the vehicle stops? Man, that is weird.

To think those cheeky Sierra Club folks could put out something humorous. They're the same people who brought us the Incredibly Ginormous Wildfire after years of "forest management" (and property protection). These guys are right on target about 15% of the time.

Nothing compares to that scene in Apocalypse where those rounds are going off around those guys on long boards! F-ing hilarious.
