Just noticed that the dealer who replaced the right-front 02 sensor must have chopped the black protective hose back (way too far in my opinion).

Now the 3 wires going in to the O2 sensor are exposed to the elements for about 4 inches.

Should I just leave them alone or should I try and wrap them up with something.

I don't think electrical tape will withstand the heat from the exhaust.

Suggestions?

I've also never replaced an O2 sensor, does it actually require cutting the wires? And if so wouldn't you eventually run out of slack? (Now I'm thinking I might just have to tug the black hose down again ...)

Educate my ignorance.

Leave them alone. If you stop to think about it, those wires had damned well better be heat resistant as they run right to a component that is screwed into the exhaust gas flow! Granted, they aren't supposed to be in contact with anything hot continuously, but they are heat resistant to some extent.

As for cutting the wires, I wouldn't expect the dealer to be installing anything but the Genuine OEM LR parts (as they are contractually bound to use only OEM LR parts), so they shouldn't be needing to cut the wires to solder new connectors on. Now, they may cut the old ones out for a few reasons, mainly it may speed up removal for them, and it also renders an otherwise likely still usable sensor useless so no one can try to reuse it.

If it makes you feel better, go ahead and pull the sheath down.

Peace,
Paul
