I had a low idle at stop lights after engine reached operating temp, check engine light finally came on got a code 44, had dealer replace left side O2 sensor it cleared the code no new codes either. Now engine idle (even in park) is all over the place (it will jump from 500 rpm to 1500 rpm and back again) I forgot to ask the deraler to check this but I would like to save some money and replce/clean the stepper myself. I need to know where is the stepper motor located, how difficult is it to remove. I've rebuilt an Alfa Romeo and I've bulit (and race) a FV racecar so I'm no rookie mechanically just not a lot of experience with Land Rovers (I bought mine last month) 95 Dicsovery 78,000 miles.

The stepper motor is located at the back of the plenum chamber on the air intake. It is very easy to remove. It basically just unscrews. Sometimes they loosen on their own so you might even be able to take it off by hand. It is one of the easiest components to remove/replace. Basically a 5 minute job.
