On alot of rovers I see stainless steel drag links and steering arms. Is there a reason people use stainless rather than 4140 steel?

I used it because it won't rust, regardless of how often it gets scratched, nicked, etc. Also, because of its lack of carbon content, I think it is more prone to "spring" back into shape.

I recently high-centered my front diff on a very large rock. Turns out the entire weight of the front end was resting on my SS tie rod. It was deflected in the center about 3" because the rock was behind the front axle. After I got my rig off of the rock, the tie rod had a few minor scratches, and was as straight as an arrow. I don't think the factory unit would have fared as well.

4140 has chrome molly in it I think. It seems like it would also "spring" back into place.
