Great News!,
I finally have my first Disco. After years of waiting and lurking this board I am now the proud owner of a 2001 Disco. When I posted questions about it in the past I listed it at 29,000 miles. I thought this was not bad for a 2001. Today the used dealer that I bought it from picked it up from the LR dealership after having the ACE pump replaced. Imagine his and my surprise when the odometer read 17,000 miles.

What happened do you ask?

The mileage listed on the Title, during the previous sale, and during the sale to me was in Kilometers not milage. The LR dealership checked things out and turns out I only have 17,700 on my new toy.

So in the end I paid $23,500 for a 2001 Disco II SE7 with 17,700 miles and the following options: a brush bar, ACE, Cold Weather PKG, Tow Pkg, leather, 7 seats, sunroofs, and 6 pk CD. I'd like to think that I got a steal. Now I just have to convince the state that the mileage on the title is wrong.

Why do you have to convice the state. What diffrence does it make what they put on the new title? It will just look like you registered it at 27K rather than 17. Big deal.

The car was purchased new from LR Dealer in Indiana. Not sure how things became KM, and the LR dealership turned it back to MPH today during a repair. All I know is that I'm pretty happy about the whole mix up.

The concern about the "State" is that it was titled to the Dealership that I bought it from at 27 K. Now I'm going to retitle it at 17K. That smells of odometer roll-back. The LR dealership here says they see it regularily and will help with any problems as the vehicle is entered appropriately in their systems.

Yep, great deal. I've noticed that prices on used LR's are way down from when we bought our 2001 (SD, meaning stripped down, as in no options) for $25.5k (but only 9k miles) about 8 months ago. It was an ex-rental, also, so God only knows how it was treated during its early life.

What Daniel was saying was... Who cares what you register the mileage as? Assuming you will keep this vehicle more than a year or so, it might not be worth your while to fight with the state and get it changed to 17k.

It's most likely not a Canadian import! If you just push your odometer reset button down and hold, it switches to km and vice versa. As far as registering the wrong mileage, the reason he will care is if he gets state inspection, or goes to sell the car, or totals the car, or registers the car next year, or needs any warranty repairs, and the mileage is off. That can cause MAJOR problems. AND, if he does that, then HE is committing warranty fraud.
