I'm considering installing a CDL kit and OME
kit on my 2001 Disco II with 38k miles. However,
I want to have warranty coverage while I own it,
so I'm considering getting an extended warranty
(85k or 100k).

The thing is, I haven't received a good indication
from any of the LR dealers in my area (Denver
East, Denver South, and Flatirons) that my tcase,
transmission, and other expensive items will in
fact be covered by the factory warranty, and less
so by the extended warranty if I make the mods (a
claims guy will come out on expensive extended
warranty repairs).

Does anyone have any experience with this? One of
the service guys was telling me that a guy was
denied a new ABS sensor (something like $800
parts + labor) because he was running the
standard OME lift. This seems like total
crap to me. And what's with the non-greasable
driveshaft? Will this thing explode on me
at 80k miles with the lift? Probably better to
just swap it out.

All in all, the impression I get is that they
may cover items, but that's subject to change
for the worse. And since Ford doesn't impart
any confidence about the future of LR, I'm
betting I'll be out of luck when I really
need the coverage that I paid for.

I'm struggling with the same question. My local centre claims LR has said unofficially in the past that anything up to 3" lift is OK... And to cover as normal on vehicles with up to 3" lift.

However, this is purely unofficial, is subject to change at any time, and really is the policy of my centre; who knows, if management changes (as it so often can), this may go right out the window.

I have an '03 that is stock except for tires, and I'm trying to decide whether to lift now or later, and how an extended warranty would fit in the picture. I'll be interested to see what you dig up.

The lift would not void, since the warrenty does not cover the suspention.

But if you were to have a drive line problem, they could refuse coverage claiming the lift as causing the problem, some dealers are slimy.

I think this is a dealer thing. The dealer can fix parts and not report that you have a lift to LR for warranty stuff, My dealer has done that for me. If you have a good relashionship with the service department than.....
Keep in mind, warranty stuff the dealer likes, its money to them.

Thomas,

When I had a 90 under warrantee at the Denver dealerships (LRDE, LRDS), they didn't have any problems at all with the OME lift that I was running, provided the work was not related to the modified parts. For example, I had a water pump go out, no problem, but if a u-joint started to go, it would have been on my own nickel...

The best thing that I can suggest to help out your cause though is to find a service tech and build a rapport with them. The more that they know you the more willing they are to help out, versus some shmoe off the street.

Thanks,
Nathan Hindman

Again, though, LR sends out an adjuster more and more on any claim. If THEY see the lift, you are screwed. Much of it has to do with the dealer, but if the guy comes, there is nothing you or the dealer can do. AND JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS, LR JUST CAME OUT WITH A COMPLETELY NEW WARRANTY PROGRAM. Make sure you know the ins and outs of THAT program. I believe the list of exclusions has gotten longer.

Thanks, I suppose that will be added to the new vehicle warranty soon, too.

Bummer, I think LRNA should leave the question (warranty or excluded due to lift, etc) up to the mechanics in touch with the vehicles. They probably have a lot more experience with rovers than the "adjusters" LRNA sends out to verify a warranty claim.

Ahwell...

The post above applies also to any Land Rover Assured extended warranties. You can see that they have gotten very strict about ANYTHING aftermarket on the vehicles.

Ouch! That doesn't seem very promising. I'm rather disappointed that LR has chosen to go this route. I know other vehicle manufactures still warranty their vehicles even with aftermarket mods.

Does anyone have good experience with third party extended warranties that are exclusionary, pay at time of service, and will not void the entire warranty based on aftermarket mods? Did I ask for everything there? :-)

There's another post this month that has similar issues....and I found the reply from one of our fellows that suggested that for the expense and all other that you will encounter. that it is better to trade your disco in for something that is More befitting to you.

Perfect timing and interesting Read. Thanks for the info Alyssa.

In the 29000 miles I have put on the Pig, the LR warranty system has been very good to me as well as overall dealer service. I still have never been back to the original dealer of purchase (due to geographical issues).

Currently I am having a bit of engine trouble. My '00 D2 with 42000 decided to start drinking oil like I drink Beer. Anyway, LR is going to replace the complete short block assembly under warranty.
