I've been told there is no such thing as a dumb question but this might qualify... I need new tires, I've got a Old Man Emu suspension lift. I want to go with bigger tires (currently stock). What size can I go to without trimming, and with trimming? Here comes the dumb question... Do I have to get a new spare? I know it's the smarter thing to do but my spare is brand new, the previous owner never put it into rotation. I'm assuming that if I needed the spare I might put undue stress on the drive train, as the smaller tire would be spinning faster than the larger tire. Assuming this is only done to get to the closest shop for tire repair is it really an issue? Anyone have any experience with the Kumho Venture MT's... Thinking of the Dunlop Rovers but the Kumhos got great reviews on tirerack.com? Thanks for the help.

As far as the spare goes they have to be the same size remember fulltime 4x4. A different Size spare would make more revolutions than your new larger tires causing damage hope this helps Scott |

chad, your thought is correct about spin rate...and as expensive as repairs can be on a drivetrain, isn't another hundred bucks for a 5th tire cheap insurance in case you are a long way from the closest tire repair? mike |

Good to know I was at least on the right track. Any thoughts on tire size or selection (Kumho vs. Dunlop)? |

i have a DII with the ome hd lift. i use 256/75-16 with no problems at all...never looked too closely at your two listed tires, but i have interco truxus m/t's. if you do a search here about them you will find quite a list of hate 'em/love 'em's about them. i think they are ok...just hard to balance. go to a good shop and all should be ok. |

also, under the tech header above, there is a listing for "tires and wheels" or just "tires." it will give you a rough rundown of tire sizes and their fit on DI and DII's... |

you might try selling the old spare back to the tire shop. I got $30 for my old worn tires when I replaced them.

You won't even need the spare if you never get a flat. but then again, once you drive without it you WILL get a flat. |

Brian!!! That's bad!!! Chad it really depends on what you get into and want to get out of... Brian for example gets into lots of "stuff" but has never needed a spare "TIRE" Hee Hee If you are just playing or adventuring and can only afford a cheap spare get a used tire of similar tread pattern and size... When you get into the really bad stuff you usually find that with proper preparations the tire is really the last "spare" you need |

For a DI, I think the biggest you can go w/o having to trim is 245/75R16. I think that's what they said to me when I had my DI, but it's been awhile since I owned a DI ...and full size spare is definitely a good idea |

Because no matter who is there to help you right your wrongs, it is still YOU who ends up paying to have the damage fixed. |
