We replaced our brake pads with Mintex on an '00 DII back in early April. Later in April we had the rear rotors replaced by the dealer as part of PA inspection. One week later our ABS, HD, and TC lights went on and the brakes started squealing. The dealer claimed the squealing was from aftermarket pads, but most of the squealing was from the rear. They replaced a front ABS sensor and the lights stayed off for about 2 weeks. Last week the light came on again.

Now they are telling us that all of these problems are caused by aftermarket pads. They want to replace with "geniune" even though I've been told the Mintex are also OEM. The Disco is at the dealer now and he's "seeing what he can do".

Funny thing is the Freelander we have as a loaner is squealing, too, with only 3k miles!

I'm not paying for new pads again!
Any suggestions?
Jason.

Get some of that blue stop squeek stuff from advance. It works pretty good. I'm not sure about your lights.

Yep - I've got 2 different kinds of "stuff", but I don't have a chance to do the work for 2 weeks yet. That, and I gotta install this Sat Rad setup!! Just not enough time right now!

I'll also keep posted on the "progress"...

THIS HAS TURNED INTO A BIGGER ISSUE!

LR is apparently claiming that ALL AFTERMARKET PADS could cause an issue with the ABS sensor. From their point of view, only genuine pads will work on a DII. They will not cover replacing pads or rotors, even though it is a LR fault.

I'm trying to work with the dealer on this, but have not gotten anywhere yet. So far I'm dealing with the Willow Grove, PA, dealer if anyone is interested.

What about getting some genuine pads and replacing them yourself? It's a quick and easy job.

It's not the pads that are causing ABS problems...it's the ABS that's causing ABS problems.

are you sure the brake guy knew what he was doing? if the light was off when you took it there and on when you left then i'd say he had some thing to do with this problem

Come to find out he put Ferodo's(not Mintex) on the Disco. Don't know if that matters or not...

My friend put only the pads on. Everything was OK after that. It was after the dealer put on the rotors that we had a problem. Our regular dealer claims they have this "bulletin" claiming the ABS problems are due to aftermarket pads. They've already replaced one hub and sensor.

We've been dealing with this dealer for years, but it was only after they changed out all the service people that we're having problems. There also isn't a "Centre Manager" there yet, either.

We're going to pull the car out and take it to another dealer. This other dealer doesn't seem to know about this "bulletin". The whole brake issue seems like a big rip-off.

Worse comes to worse I'll just put genuine pads on - I just don't have time in the next 2 weeks.

Jason.
