Once in a while I can't get it into 4th gear as I am driving. Could it be low fluid somewhere? What else could it be and how do I fix it?

Have you checked the transmission fluid level?

How do I do that?
The owner's manual says that the "fluid in the gearbox should only be checked by a dealer during regular servive intervals"
Since I don't take it to a dealer and do my own maintenance whenever possible, I'd like to know if I have been missing it. I know where it is on an automatic, but can't seem to find it on mine.

Are they talking about the differentials?
Thanks

Greg: : Look on the side of the gearbox hidden behind the front driveshaft is a plug. When the truck is cold unscrew, with a cloth or similar to catch oil and check level.
Also check clutch fluid levels.
How far down are you having to press the clutch before you can change gear? If its right on the floor, then your clutch may be on its last legs

Greg, if you're going to be doing your own maintenance you need to get a service manual, preferably a factory one.

I get under my truck every 2500 miles and check ALL the fluids (not forgetting the swivel balls), hit the drive shafts with grease, etc. Rovers bleed. This is a fact of life, so you'll save yourself a lot of $$$$ and heartache if you make sure your Rover is properly lubed at all times.

For your 5-speed, use Redline MTL (Manual Transmission Lubricant) -- probably the best fluid on the market.

Good luck!

Yeah...I have one on CD, but it is at my house, and I am not living there since I was activated.

Which one is the gearbox?

syncronizer. If you don't know what the gearbox is you will not be able to fix it.
