The following is from the Atlantic British tech tips page. "Engine Misfire, Stumble - Troubleshooting Vehicle - Land Rover Defender '94-'95, Range Rover Engine misfire or stumble under acceleration or load may be caused by a poor connection in the diagnostic connector under the right seat, adjacent to the ECU on the Range Rover or in the footwell behind the fascia lower trim panel on the Defender. The pins on the female side of the plug tend to open up and need to be crimped tighter. Clean the pins with contact cleaner and reconnect. Secure with a nylon wire tie to prevent a recurrence." Exactly what "diagnostic connector" are they talking about? What does it look like on a '91 RR? I wouldn't think that they're talking about the plug for the LED control unit or the brown box for the service engine light. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks! |

I believe it's a plastic 2 pin connector which has a dummy plug in it when not being used for diagnostics. The dummy has a jumper wire shorting the 2 pins together. If it comes loose it can cause a misfire. The remedy, as stated, is to put a zip tie around the connector and plug. |

Anybody have a pic? My RRC has been running suspect to the diagnosis (and though I've blamed it on other stuff) and I went to have a look. The only thing remotely matching the description of a 2-lead plug with a jumper wire is a plug where the "jumper" has about 2 resistors wired in series and covered in translucent plastic. Is this the plug? |

This is from the AllData site:
It's just a loose cable under the RH seat. |

e-mail it to me: [email protected] And location descriptions don't exactly help as this is an OBDI EFI system I installed in my '83. Maybe I'll check my Disco this evening and identify what I should be looking for on the loom of my RRC. |
