My red "service engine" light recently came on and I saw all the posts and pictures on this website on how to reset it, so I went ahead and opened the passenger side footwell facia with my Paperclip at the ready. Well... it wasn't there. I searched but nope, no cigar.
For some reason I looked under the passenger seat to check the codes, ( I recently had a code 17, throttle potentiometer which I had replaced to fix another problem when my check engine lght had come on), And there it was, the emission maintainence reminder ready for my paperclip, I ended up taking the cover off and shorting the two pins with a pocket screwdriver as Paul T. Schram had mentioned on an earlier post. Next time I will just stick that small screwdriver through the hole as he suggested.
OK, I'm ready to start my car and see if the service engine light is out.
Horrors....my car turns over but won't start!
Turns out that while I was frisking the relays on the passenger side, I heard a "not so funny" noise that blew a fuel system fuse under the hood. So a new 20 amp fuse later my car starts and NO "Service Engine" light.
All's well that ends well.
