I am removing the stock running boards for my '00 Discovery and I've got the boards off, but now I am looking to remove the mounting arm as well. The arm goes up and is bolted up on the frame and there is also a large bolt that comes down and bolts to it lower down. Further up on this lower bolt it is connected to what looks like a suspension bushing. If the mounting arm is left on the car it sticks out past the bottom of the rig and defeats the purpose of removing the running boards in the first place. Can this arm be removed? What is this bushing that it goes up to? Thanks for your help guys |

Neither one of these posts answer my questions, but thanks for your effort. I have the running boards off and I know their are 2 bolts in the front and 2 in the back...YEAH...past that. Focus with me. I need to know what this mounting arm is connected to. |

Ok I took some pictures and made some notes on them of what I am actually asking about. Surely someone has ran into this before and wanted to pull these running board mounting arms off. Lemme know if you have run into this before and have any advice.

Mike - The large post is actually an extended bolt. It can be removed and then the bolt that goes into its end (the lower right one identified on the picture) can be threaded into its place. We wondered about the same thing when we took off mine but it was actually quite straightforward once we got started. Use LOTS of WD40 to free up the bolt and just be careful not to bend it when you are torquing on it to loosen it up. Good luck. Jay |

Jay, Thanks a ton for your help. I wasn't too keen on taking off those bolts until I knew exactly what they were and how they actually came out. It was simple once I started though. I figured at least a couple of LR guys out there had done it considering there are quite a few that come stock with the running boards and they really lower ground clearance and are susceptible to being torn off or ruined during off-roading. Thanks again, MZ |
