OK. Just took my 96 Disco out of commission for a couple of days for replacement of brake lines, trans. filter and fluid, power steering lines, etc. Since it now has @200K miles I am going to replace the bearings in the front. I have two questions: 1. Does the ABS sproket need to be cleaned? Could gunk on the gear cause the ABS to malfunction instead of the sensor? (Sensor is too **** much!) 2. I tried to order a brake caliper rebuild kit for my 96 (early 96) from one AB and they said that the kits they had wouldn't work. Why? There is a little pitting on the surface of a couple of the pistons and wanted to replace them to prevent them sticking. Haven't tried the dealership yet. (Last place in the world I'd ask) |

Don't neglect those tie rod ends. IIRC, they're supposed to be replaced every 90k.

How come the Disco doesn't have grease fittings at the steering? |

Yeah, I changed my tie rod ends already. I have found a lot of greasy dirt around the passenger side swivel joint and belive that the wiper seal might be in need of replacement also. I'm going to pull my ABS sensors and take a look at them and the sprokets anyway. |

Try Rovers North for the capliper rebuild kit. http://catalog.roversnorth.com/wwwboard/w3bbrrframe.html. I recently rebuilt one of the rear brakes with this kit and it works fine. Be carefull with seals and seal ring. |

In my opinion, just buy a rebuilt caliper vs rebuild kit. Got mine from Kragen/PartsAmerica.com for $80ish + $50 core. Just a thought. |
