Todd: Vibrations are caused by everything from out of balance tires, to bad Universal joints. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion you need CVs. Have your tires balanced and rotated. Replace your universals, top up the oil in your swivels. Yes, you can put 90 wt in the swivels. A leak is nothing surprising. |

ok. it shouldnt be my tires as they are only 1 month old. i did hit a fairly deep hole pretty hard though. its only been since then that the vibrations have occurred. i guess i may have knocked a balance weight off....cheers |

On a related topic, what are the other sign are there for a failing cv joint, beside the vibration? At lock I get a crunching or creaking sound, not a tick as other bad cv's I have heard, I get no vibes. My oil level is fine. |

I had CV joins fail on a VW scirocco, and the symptom was a clunking sound at low speed while turning. Don't know if it would be the same on a Discovery, but I would suspect that it would be. |

Funny my experience comes from a 85 GTI and my 88 16v scirocco, the scirocco let it's cv's go after about a year of autocrossing. |

Hey, I am very new to this DIY stuff so I am learning here...If CV joints are failing, at what speed will you notice the vibrations? All speeds, high speeds only? I ask because since I have bought my 96 D1 in Sept I have had a constant vibration problem (truck was also pulling to the right). 1st I rotated the tires, aligned and balanced them. Then I replaced my shocks (72k miles when I bought it, 75k when I replaced shocks). Then I bought two new tires for the front because the truck was still pulling to the right and vibrating. Recently I have replaced my radius arm & panhard bushings and again rotated and realigned the tires. I believe they also replaced my front ball joints (not sure if they have bushings too?). The pulling to the right has stopped, now the truck vibrates at 70+ mph. Any ideas here??? Would the bushings on the rear swaybar cause this?? Thanks for any input you have to offer. |

Did you check the rubber spacer on the driveshaft (propshaft). If it is cracked it will give tons of vibes. I'll put money it could be this. I replaced mine and can drive without vibes to the speed of a little Nash Rambler. (too darn fast!) Check it! Matthew G |

Thanks Matthew, I'll check that. If that is it, is it easy to change? Chris |

ok. well i am noticing the same symptons. vibes and pulling a little to the right. the vibrations are only there under acceleration. as soon as i back off of the gas they stop. i have a horrid amount of backlash too. and im thinking this is getting worse. i just would like to know what is causing all this hassle because it is all covered by warranty and they will want to know |
