I am in the middle of installing an Alpine navigation unit and have a question. One of the wires is marked "Speed Sensor". Now I have been searching the archives, and found that the Vehicle Speed Sensor is located on the transfer case next to the hand brake. However I am wondering if anyone knows where (and what color) this wire is inside the cabin. Now I actually have the transmission tunnel out of there because I am also installing my CDL linkage right now, so I have access to the wires under there, but I would rather not have to run any interior wires outside of the vehicle. Can anyone help me out? Does anyone have any experience installing one of these units? --Also mine is a 2000 DII |

There's a real easy place to tap the VSS - right near the fuses. I was looking for the same thing when I installed my Pathmaster gps. This info was given to me in Feb 02 by Fred van Venetien, so thanks go to him. This should be everything you need to setup your GPS. This info was valid for my 2001 DII, and I believe Fred said it was valid for all DII's, so your 2000 should have the same setup.

hewy, where are you putting that unit? i was going to get the nav unit in conjunction with the alpine 7" flip LCD unit, but both have rather large boxes that I have to hide somewhere. So I was a bit hesitant. |

Well my head unit is a CVA-1003 flip out screen that contains itself in the original dash location. Then I installed the GPS in the bottom of the drivers side storage box in the back, and created a fake floor that sits on top of it. Since I only need access to the unit very rarely I figured having it hid away was allright. |
