hey guys a got a bit of a panic level question here. when is the right time to check for the acurate oil level? the owners guide says the engine shoul be hot. it says ti check it 5 mins after you stop it. is this emough time for the oil to drain into the sump? i let it sit like 10 mins and the dipstick is reading that the oil level is too high. am i f**ked? did i over fill it? or should i let it drain into the sump longer? when exactly will i get an acurate reading off of the dipstick? hot / cold? how long after the enigine stops is the right time to check it? |

The intent is to check the oil level when the oil is all down in the sump. After 10 minutes it should have drained back down, but if it hasn't drained back down, the oil level would appear lower than it really is. If your seeing an over fill indication, you should drain some out, check it, and adjust as required. |

The best way to check it is 5 minutes after you have started the engine. This will allow the oil filter to fill and give a more precise reading than if the engine is cold, and the oil has drained from the filter. |
