ok, i have tried the napa, and advance auto's stepper motors, and they dont seem to work well for my 95 d1 3.9

have you guys had the same problems?
has any of you guys with 95's tried the Borg Warner, or the AC Delco?

if so, exactly where can i find them to purchase one?

i dont want input from 96ers, RRCers and the such.. i only want those with 95 d1 3.9 experience only!

is it true that it will take 2-3 days for the new AIC to set itself properly?

I'm running the Advance Auto Parts IAC right now. It's been in for about a year. It seems to cooperate well with my truck. When I installed it I had to adjust the idle screw a bit. Since then it's been fine.

how long did it take for it to set itself?
i mean, did it work fine from the start? or did it take a while?

put the napa one in my truck over 2 years ago - think i remember it running pretty well immediately? I did do the process that the directions of the iac recommended - run it at 45mph for approx 15 min or something like that.

You need to check the base idle setting. Stepper is often blamed for base idle being to low. The stepper should work as soon as you instal it.

Also check the housing for carbon build up possibly restricking flow. Some of the 3.9L had to small an opening which wouldnot take much carbon to restrict. I would remove it look thru the back side should be approx 11mm hole. Have had 3.5l, 3.9l, and 4.0l. Take my input if you want it. Cheers!

When I put the new one on it started working right away. But like Shaun said part of it was the idle screw needed adjustment.

If the US cars are the same as the OZ cars the base idle screw is recessed in the top of the throttle body just near the cable and linkages. What you do is find the air hose that feeds the stepper and block it air tight (so the stepper can't by-pass air and control the idle). Start the engine, you may have to rev it to keep it going and adjust the the grub screw to give 650 rpm. Unblock the hose and your away. The idle screw may be covered by plug. Make sure the engine is hot.

2. when adjust the base idle, do i put the truck in gear, or leave it in park or neutral?

Base idle is set in neutral with all loads off the engine must be at full operating temp.

ok, i have taken off my stepper housing on the plenium.

i have a technical update that show a defect in the design of the housing... it looks like mine has this defect. it has something to do with a "flash" that was not cut properly and cuts off the air.

ok, can all of you reading scan me a foto of the inside of your stepper hoiusing? just sit it flat on the scaner and send it to my email. i will tell you if it has the problem or not.
