My wife got stranded in the Disco today. She left work and the Ignition key would not turn. In the past I have noticed that the key would hesitate before it would turn. Right now it is sitting in a parking lot waiting for some attention. It is a 98 Disco I Thanks, Kelly |

I have had the same problem on my '97. I have had to wiggle the steering wheel (with force)for a moment while trying the key and eventually, suddenly, it releases. This has confounded my wife on a couple of occassions as well. Sometimes the wheel is locked, other times not. It could be frustrating when counting on a quick getaway... |

I have a similar problem. I think it is because my key is torqued around its axis a few degrees. Probably from trying to force it in the ignition. Sometimes I have to reinsert it and retry 10 times before it finally works. I just keep putting off ordering a new key. I have a blank but nobody will make a copy for me because they say my original is too damaged. |

I finally got time to go retrieve the Disco last night. The Disco was in park and I moved the steering wheel back and forth, hard at times, and it still did not turn. After taking off the plastic trim I started to mess with the ignition lock cylinder. On the back side there is a pin or something that sticks out. I really could not see it but it felt like a pin with a washer or clip holding it in. When I was messing with it the pin pushed in so I decided to try the key again and it worked. I have no idea why or what exactly I did but it works now. |

i have had the same problem. i try not to lock the steering wheel when parking. that seems to help. check your keys too. if you are like me and have had the key stuck several times the key may have bent or twisted a bit. i need to get replacements made too. |
